Arijit Singh’s father’s name is Kakkar Singh and his mother’s name is Aditi Singh. Arijit Singh’s father is a Punjabi Sikh and his mother is a Bengali Hindu woman. Early Career

When Arijit Singh was 18 years old, his mentor Rajendra Prasad Hazari suggested that he leave his hometown and take part in the reality show Fame Gurukul (2005). This was the beginning of Arijit Singh's musical career. He placed sixth and was removed by audience vote. Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali saw his skill during the performance and had him sing Yun Shabnam, a song slated to be utilised in his upcoming movie Saawariya. The song was no longer necessary due to a change in the script during production. It was never made public. The head of Tips, Kumar Taurani, signed him after Fame Gurukul for an album that was never made public.

Arijit Singh competed in and won the reality competition 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil. He made the decision to relocate to Mumbai in 2006 to work as a freelancer, residing in a rented room in the city's Lokhandwala district. With the Mithoon composition Phir Mohabbat from the 2011 film Murder 2, Singh made his Bollywood musical debut. Pritam invited him to sing as well during the same year when he was programming for the song Raabta which stars Saif Ali Khan in the lead from Agent Vinod (2012). All four renditions of the song included his portion, and one of them required him to sing the full song. Singh was dubbed for Pritam in Players, Cocktail, and Barfi! in addition to Agent Vinod.

Arijit Singh also performed the song Uska Hi Banana for Chirantan Bhatt in the movie 1920: Evil Returns. In the movie Shanghai, he performed the song Duaa by Vishal-Shekhar. He sang for Mithoon on Humdard for Ek Villain which stars Sharddha Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra and Hai Dil Ye Mera for Hate Story 2 during 2014. On Manwa Laage for Happy New Year and Sajde for Kill Dil, he collaborated with Vishal-Shekhar. He contributed vocals to three tracks on Pritam Chakraborty's Holiday, which Arijit Singh himself produced, and two songs on Sharib-Toshi's Zid.  While he received two Filmfare nominations for Suno Na Sangemarmar and Mast Magan, he received the maximum nominations for the year for his song Muskurane by Jeet Ganguli. 
With the song Neeye Vaazhkai Enbena from the film Pugazh, Singh made his Tamil debut in 2015. Additionally, he contributed vocals to the dance song Sooraj Dooba Hain from the film Roy which stars Jaqueline Fernandez Arjun Rampal and Rnabir Kapoor, which was written by Kumaar and composed by Amaal Mallik. He sang the duet Agar Tum Saath Ho from the Tamasha movie, penned by Irshad Kamil and arranged by A. R. Rahman, with Alka Yagnik throughout the year. On the Khwaishein song from Calendar Girls, he once more collaborated with Amaal Mallik. Along with Shreya Ghoshal, Singh also dubbed the Hindi version of the song Pookkalae Sattru Oyivedungal from Rahman's I. Singh also collaborated with Gannguli and Bobby-Imran for the film Khamoshiyan, where he sang the title song. He sung Tu Har Lamha for Bobby-Imran and Baatein Ye Kabhi Na for Gannguli. On two more productions, Teri Khushboo for Mr. X and the title track for Hamari Adhuri Kahani, he worked with Gannguli.

 Along with Sachin-Jigar and Chirantan Bhatt on Chunar and Teri Meri Kahaani, he also collaborated with other fresh new composers including Bann Chakraborty, Khamosh Shah, Jatinder Shah, and Manj Musik. Singh also created a repeat of Deewana Tera, a song by Sonu Nigam from 1999, for Ek Paheli Leela. Singh and Himesh Reshammiya worked together for the first time in 2015 on the song Baaton Ko Teri from the film All Is Well. He performed Phantom's Saware and Sooiyan from Guddu Rangeela, and he voiced Bhardwaj in Shaam Ke Saaye and Kya Pataa for Talvar and Drishyam, respectively. Singh released his second promotional single during the year in addition to creating soundtracks. Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon are featured in the song, Chal Waha Jaate Hain, which was written by Mallik. With the song Yaar Illahi - Qawwali from the movie Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, Singh also made his Marathi debut.

 

The Recognition Phase: 2015-2019

On the 2015 movie Dilwale's soundtrack, Arijit sang Janam Janam which stars Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan as the lead vocalist. He and Antara Mitra performed the duet song Gerua, which was written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and was composed by Pritam. He performed the well-liked dance number Tukur Tukur from the film Dilwale, which was also composed by Pritam and penned by Bhattacharya. He also performed the eerie songs Yaad Hain Na and Raaz Aakhein Teri from the same movie. He sang the duet Dharkhaast from the movie Shivaay with Sunidhi Chauhan. Mithoon provided the music, and Sayeed Quadri wrote the words.The popular title track Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and composed by Pritam Chakraborty, was sung by Singh as the film's main vocalist. From the Half Girlfriend soundtrack, Arijit Singh performed the song Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga, which was written by Mithoon and had lyrics by Manoj Muntashir. He also performed Pal Bhar, an extended and reprised version of Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga. He performed Ik Vaari Aa, a song with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and music by Pritam, as the lead vocalist in the movie Raabta. The song is from the Indian movie Raabta's soundtrack. For the song Lambiyaan si Judaiyaan, which is featured on the soundtrack for the movie and was written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and JAM8, Singh provided vocal assistance and performed acoustic guitar alongside Roland Fernandes. In the film Behen Hogi Teri, he performed the song Tera Hoke Rahoon, which was written by JAM8 and had lyrics by Bipin Das.

In 2019, Arijit Singh performed two songs: Mere Pyare Prime Minister from Mere Pyare Prime Minister, with music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Gulzar, and Ruan Ruan from the movie Sonchiriya. His song Ve Maahi featuring Asees Kaur from the movie Kesari, which was composed by Tanishk Bagchi, was released in March.
