The movie begins with Kaadan slouching beside a brook where an elephant herd is soothing their thirst. The woodland is pure (the cinematography of AR Ashok Kumar emphasizes the paradise-like character of the location), and everything exudes calm. This man is in tune with nature.
This concept is reaffirmed a few scenes later when Kaadan painstakingly removes a creeper that twirled around his finger while he was sleeping. The way this man would respond to a JCB stomping over flowers or a saw chopping through the cherished trees he has planted in the forest, tearing the very thread that binds the forest together, is therefore not surprising.
