Gulshan Devaiah began his career in 2010 with Anurag Kashyap's short film That Girl in Yellow Boots. He starred alongside Kalki Koechlin and Naseeruddin Shah, playing the role of Chitiappa. The film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.
In 2011, Devaiah appeared in Rohan Sippy's crime thriller Dum Maaro Dum with Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, and Prateik Babbar. He portrayed the character Ricky in the film. The same year, he starred in Bejoy Nambiar's Hindi thriller Shaitan alongside Rajeev Khandelwal and Kalki Koechlin, playing the role of Karan Chaudhary KC.
In 2012, Devaiah had his first lead role in Vivek Agnihotri's erotic thriller Hate Story, produced by Vikram Bhatt. He portrayed the antagonistic character Siddharth Dhanrajgir, the cocky son of a wealthy business tycoon.
In 2013, Devaiah appeared in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic-tragedy drama Ram-Leela starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. He played the role of Bhavani in the film, which was a blockbuster success. After a gap of one year, in 2015, he starred in Harshavardan Kulkarni's adult comedy film Hunterrr alongside Radhika Apte. Devaiah portrayed the character Mandar Ponkshe, a sex-addicted man, in a story about his lustful journey in life. The film performed well at the box office.
In 2016, Devaiah played the role of an NRI in Vivek Agnihotri's film Junooniyat. In 2017, he appeared in three films: Cabaret, A Death in the Gunj, and CandyFlip. He played the double role of twin brothers Karate Mani and Jimmy in the action comedy film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, for which he won the Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor and received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Dum Maaro Dum
Dum Maaro Dum is a 2011 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Rohan Sippy. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu in the lead roles, with Rana Daggubati, Prateik Babbar, and Aditya Pancholi in supporting roles. It was primarily shot in Goa. Deepika Padukone makes a special appearance in the remix version of the popular song of the same title. The film's music was composed by Pritam, and it became the first Indian film to have its soundtrack mixed in Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound.
The story revolves around Lawrence Lorry Gomes, a footballer who fails to fulfill his dream of studying in an American college due to financial constraints. His girlfriend, Tani, receives a scholarship to the US, which further adds to his disappointment. Lorry's friend Ricky offers him a way to get into the college by smuggling drugs. Lorry agrees, and at the airport, he successfully passes the X-ray machine with the drugs hidden on him.
Hate Story
Hate Story is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language erotic thriller film directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Vikram Bhatt. The film features Nikhil Dwivedi, Gulshan Devaiah, and Paoli Dam in the lead roles. It was released on April 20, 2012.
The movie revolves around a woman who faces betrayal and her subsequent struggle to seek revenge against the person who wronged her. The film garnered both commercial success and critical acclaim. However, it also generated controversy when the lead actress accused director Vivek Agnihotri of sexual harassment.
Hunterrr
The film was released on March 20, 2015. It was later remade in Telugu as Babu Baga Busy in 2017. The protagonist, Mandar Ponkshe, is portrayed as an unconventional youth who is addicted to sex and enjoys casual encounters. Despite being in his late 30s, he prefers one-night stands over committed relationships, while his friends have settled down with families. Mandar explains his perspective on sex, considering it a purely physical act devoid of emotional attachment.
