Zero is a 2018 Bollywood film directed by Aanand L. Rai. The film's primary actors are Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, and Katrina Kaif. The story centres around Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), a vertically challenged man with charm and wit.
Bauua Singh is from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, India, and he longs for genuine love and happiness. He meets and falls in love with Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder, a bright scientist with cerebral palsy (Anushka Sharma). Despite their physical disparities, they connect on an emotional level and decide to marry.
Bauua's life, however, takes a drastic change when he meets popular Bollywood actress Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif). He falls in love with her and is drawn into the dazzling world of fame and money. This results in a love triangle including Bauua, Aafia, and Babita.
Bauua confronts several challenges throughout the novel and learns valuable life lessons along the way. He navigates the difficulties of love, relationships, and personal development. Zero is a touching story that combines aspects of romance, drama, and comedy. It follows a man as he defies society norms and discovers the true meaning of love and life.
The project was initially planned in 2012 by Rai, then pre-production started in 2016. The movie was originally named as katrina meri jaan, later it went through numerous changes and finalised as zero in orlando. Zero was released on 21st december 2018. Zero was released on 4380 screens in India and 1585 in other nations, as worldwide the total number of screens was 5965.
The film received a certified 12A classification and a 164-minute length from the British Board of Film Classification in mid-December 2018. Zero was approved by Pakistan's Central Board of Film Censors with no cuts. It was released in 156 theatres across Pakistan by local distributor Eveready Pictures, which is said to be the most for any film in Pakistan. The film, which was originally scheduled to be released in Germany on December 20, 2018, was postponed on January 17, 2019, to ensure a wider release. In China, the film was released in March 2019. The closing film of the Beijing International Film Festival was Zero.Zero is also available in various OTT platforms including Netflix, Amazon prime video, Zee5 and MX player.
Critics have given Zero a variety of reactions. Zero has been Most praised the film's visual effects and agreed that Kaif gave the best performance of her career. it was cut short by the resources at hand, and that the second half in particular was aimless and scattered. The first half of the film flat-out fantastic, an unabashed charm-offensive, and noting that the writing and dialogues crackle with spontaneity and inventiveness.
When the film outgrows the small town of Meerut, it finds it hard to keep its witty nature along with the ambitious second half; where the film should have gone bonkers, it takes a melodramatic approach that doesn't work. the ambitious nature of the film and extremely self-aware, particularly in its first half, crediting it for grounding the plot in warmth. The film had an inspiring concept yet was poorly executed. While the film puts forth many ideas, few of them stick and the romantic moments and visuals, while striking, only stay for a little while. The film felt too long and the second half, when Bauua travels out of his hometown, feels more audacious than the first. Yet the positive is that the characters stay upbeat despite their challenges, and the lead actors give good performances. While the film builds up an exciting story well, it doesn't quite finish it in the way the viewer would anticipate.
Shah Rukh Khan as Bauua Singh - Bauua Singh's character was going to be played by Salman khan. Shah Rukh Khan was then cast in the role. In March 2016, his casting was confirmed. He portrays a dwarf man. Rai picked Khan in the starring part because he wanted a huge star to get the narrative out there. He needed an intelligent actor, who also can carry that happy-go-lucky attitude, and he felt Khan possessed those qualities. Bauua is a young man who is suffering from dwarfism, shortness in height due to genetic conditions. Even while suffering from such conditions he is playful and carefree who has big dreams. In the beginning his role was a bit immature but as the story evolved he became more responsible towards his actions.
Anushka Sharma as Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder - anushka sharma has played the role of an NSAR scientist with cerebral palsy, an inborn disorder of movement and muscle tone. She is a young, intelligent and independent woman. Who has a heart of a gold and emotional character as well. Her character was very sensible and Anushka played it immensely.
Katrina Kaif as Babita Kumari - an alcoholic actress, who was heartbroken because of her past experience in terms of relationship and carefree as an individual. Her character as a babita kumari showed open minded women, and successful actors. Her role as a successful actress is loved by her fans. Character development of babita throughout the movie has been well written.

One of the biggest challenges in the movie was to make Shah Rukh Khan's character as a dwarf. Starting to makeup, then height and fitting him in the frame perfectly. The whole team has to put extra efforts to shoot Shah rukh khan’s every scene from different angles, also while making sure that the character’s bubbly charm is maintained.
The zero film's producer, Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd, presented an affidavit before a division bench of justices B P Dharmadhikari and S V Kotwal, which is hearing a case filed by attorney Amritpal Singh Khalsa.
In his appeal, Khalsa asked the film's director and producers to remove sequences in which Khan is seen with a 'kirpan' (a blade or tiny dagger carried by Sikhs). The petition is in response to the film's poster, which depicts Khan in a vest and shorts, with a garland of Rs 500 bills around his neck and a 'kirpan' tied diagonally across his chest.Khalsa objected to this scenario, citing the historical and cultural significance of the 'kirpan,' which is worn after accepting the'rehat maryada' (conversion to Sikhism).
According to Khalsa, the scene has harmed the feelings of the Sikh community.
Navroze Serwai, the producer's counsel, told the court earlier this month that the petition was completely based on an erroneous assumption.
Zero grossed Rs. 18.78 crore on its first day at the Indian box office. Domestically, the film grossed around 53 crore in its three-day opening weekend. It made 9.5 crore on Monday and 12.75 crore on Tuesday (Christmas holiday) in the domestic circuit. On Day 2 (22 December), Zero grossed $283,808 ($19.9 million) from 262 screens in the United States. According to Box Office India, the film's overall domestic gross collection is 87 crore, and its overseas gross collection is $14 million. The film's worldwide gross is $191 million. The film was widely regarded as a flop.

Shah rukh khan’s scenes were shot by using Forced Perspective, which is a technique that employs optical illusion to make an object appear farther away, closer, larger or smaller than it actually is. It is the first time a Bollywood film used this technology.
Sridevi has made an appearance in the film as a guest, which marked her last appearance, after her death in early 2018.
Deepika Padukone was the first choice for Anushka's role. Then she had to leave the film due to date issues.
