Salman Khan was originally being considered by director Mansoor Khan for the part of Max Dias, but since he was dating the actress, things didn't work out and he decided to cast Shah Rukh Khan instead. Mansoor Khan has acknowledged that he was eager to cast Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan in his film Josh, but the latter turned him down. The part of Rahul Sharma was reportedly given to Aamir Khan. According to Mansoor Khan, Aamir Khan wanted to change the image and no longer wanted to play the romantic hero or lover boy Rahul Sharma. Kajol was also offered the part of Shirley by Mansoor, but she turned it down.
