Udit Narayan’s Biography
Udit Narayan is an Indian playback vocalist well known for her work in Hindi films. He has also performed in Telugu Kannada Tamil Bengali Odia Bhojpuri Nepali Malayalam Assamese Bagheli and Maithili. He has received four National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards as well as twenty nominations.
For his contributions to arts and culture the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016. As many as 21 of his tracks feature in BBC's Top 40 Bollywood Soundtracks of all time.
Recognizing his contribution King of Nepal Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev bestowed upon him the Order of Gorkha Dakshina Bahu in 2001 followed by the Chitragupta Cineyatra Samman in 2015 for his contribution to Bhojpuri cinema. He is the first male vocalist to have won the Filmfare Awards in over three decades (the 1980s 1990s and 2000s).

Ranjana Narayan Jha
Udit Narayan married Ranjana Narayan Jha a Bihar native for the first time in 1984. Because Udit had not built a name for himself at the time his marriage received little attention. He never looked back after moving to Mumbai and having fortune kiss his forehead. Not even at his wife who was waiting for him to return and take her to their new house.
Everything had been kept quiet until 2006 when Udit Narayan's background came back to haunt him. In April 2006 Udit was in Patna for a show and had reserved a room in a premium hotel when Ranjana stormed in with a swarm of media reporters and refused to leave Udit's room despite many warnings.
After causing a commotion in the hotel Ranjhana claimed to be Udit's first wife and that he had married another woman without informing her or obtaining a divorce from her. Following all of this the pair met at a location for a four-hour meeting. After over three months of court battles Udit publicly acknowledged his first wife.
Deepa Gahatraj
Udit found love in the arms of another woman after only two years of marriage. Deepa Gahatraj a Nepalese actress trying her luck in Bollywood met Udit and the two quickly clicked prompting them to take the next step. Deepa and Udit married before the end of 1985 despite Udit's failure to obtain a divorce from his first wife Ranjana. It's unclear whether Deepa was aware of Ranjana's whereabouts when she married Udit.
Within a year of their marriage Udit and Deepa had a son Aditya Narayan who is now a well-known Bollywood singer. The 'Papa Kahte Hain' singer stated that his wife was always supportive of him during his early career.
Udit Narayan's Struggles
His early years were difficult and he began his career with a brief spell with Nepal Radio. During the 1970s he sang Maithili Nepali and Bhojpuri songs. By the end of the 1970s he had moved to Bombay on scholarship to study music. He studied Indian classical music for six years at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan. When music director Rajesh Roshan gave him a role in the film Unees Bees in 1980 he seized the opportunity.
Udit Narayan Career
Narayan began his Bollywood career in 1980 when music director Rajesh Roshan noticed him and invited him to playback sing for the Hindi film Unees-Bees. Narayan was given the opportunity to perform with Mohammed Rafi. He has sung a couplet in Swami Dada for Devanand. In the film Sannata he performed his first duet.
Soon after Narayan sang in a number of additional films including Bade Dil Wala in 1983 in which he performed a duet with senior vocalist Lata Mangeshkar that was composed by senior music director R. D. Burman. Narayan co-starred alongside Kishore Kumar in the film Kehdo Pyar Hai the same year. Suresh Wadkar was another singer he performed with and the music was composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Marriage Controversy
The singer made every attempt to hide his first marriage to Ranjana Jha Narayan. She dragged him to court and he later acknowledged her as his first wife. Despite all odds and derogatory comments Ranjana never communicated her disapproval with Deepa Narayan Jha.
Few people are aware that Udit Narayan married Deepa Narayan who was also a playback singer at the time. However things took a turn for the worst when Ranjana a Bihar native filed a complaint against him with the Patna Women's Commission. They did however have a happy ending once Udit accepted her as his wife.
