Based on Charles Dickens' 1861 novel Great Expectations, the 2016 Indian Hindi-language film Fitoor is a romantic drama film that was directed by Abhishek Kapoor, produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, and written by Kapoor and Supratik Sen. The film was released in India. The movie was made available to the public in India. It has been decided that Tabu, Katrina Kaif, and Aditya Roy Kapur will play the leading roles in this next film. Filming began in Kashmir in November 2014.

On the other hand, the film received praise for its score, cinematography, and the performances of its cast members, with Tabu's portrayal receiving particularly high praise from reviewers. Fitoor is a Bollywood romantic drama film released in 2016, based on Charles Dickens' classic novel Great Expectations. The story is set in the beautiful backdrop of Kashmir, highlighting its mesmerising landscapes and the poetic charm it holds.

The film revolves around Noor, a young and talented artist with a passion for painting. Noor lives with his older sister, who works as a housemaid in a grand mansion owned by Begum Hazrat, a wealthy and enigmatic lady. Begum Hazrat is a respected member of the elite society and lives a solitary life, haunted by her past.

One day, while delivering a painting to Begum Hazrat, Noor meets Firdaus, her daughter, who captivates him instantly. Firdaus, an ethereal beauty, lives a sheltered life under the strict supervision of her mother. Noor's artistic sensibilities are ignited by Firdaus' beauty, and he becomes obsessed with her, seeing her as his muse and a symbol of unattainable love.

Noor's infatuation with Firdaus leads him to aspire for a better life and pushes him to achieve success as an artist. Inspired by the love stories he reads, Noor dreams of winning Firdaus' heart and rising above his humble background.

As Noor grows into a renowned painter, his art catches the attention of a wealthy art collector, Arif. Arif recognizes Noor's talent and becomes his patron, introducing him to the glamorous world of high society. In this newfound world, Noor encounters the complexities of love, ambition, and betrayal.

While Noor pursues his dreams, Firdaus is torn between her mother's control and her growing affection for Noor. Begum Hazrat, fearful of losing her daughter and desperate to protect her from the pain of love, manipulates their lives and orchestrates events to keep them apart.

Later fitoor also streamed on various ott platforms such as Netflix, Amazon prime video, ZEE5 and more. Fitoor was delayed by months after Rekha decided to walk out of the project midway after shooting a few scenes. Soon after tabu was brought to shoot and resumed working. 

Reviews 

The film Fitoor narrates the narrative of three people: Noor (played by Aditya Roy Kapoor), who, when he was young, fell in love with his muse's daughter Firdaus (played by Katrina Kaif); Tabu, who plays Noor's muse; and Firdaus's mother, who plays Tabu. Noor has an unhealthy fixation on Firdaus as they become older and is prepared to resort to whatever means necessary in order to win her over. However, Begum, who is emotionally damaged as a result of her failed marriage, devises a plan to get revenge on their love tale. Fitoor movie is based on the popular Charles Dicken's novel The Great Expectation, it was an emotional love story, A masterpiece. Poetic dialogues, breathtaking scenery and soulful background music. Aditya roy kapoor’s and tabu’s character has left a huge impact on their fans with their exceptional acting skills. 

Tabu is a legend in such parts, and she gives full credit to every single scene. Aditya also provides depth to characters like these with his innate melancholy nature, whether it be in Ashiqui, Malang, or Fitoor. The characters are quite compelling, and it is tough to decide which one was better. He is absolutely amazing in these parts. It's a perfect  movie for those who love to watch emotional and romantic movies. Katrina Kaif's character was evolved throughout the movie as a young girl falling in love with a guy her mother doesn't approve of. However the movie couldn't meet the expectations of some of the people due to poor script writing and weak direction. What had the potential to have a significant influence but instead was a long, dull movie.

Character Analysis

Aditya Roy Kapur as Noor Nizami - Noor, a young man madly in love with the girl he met at a young age and how he works hard as an artist to become an accomplished man for the girl he loves. Noor is a very passionate, talented and skilled artist. Even though his life has not been easy in the movie, he overcomes all the hurdles to reach his goal and for the girl he had cherished from a very young age. 

Katrina Kaif as Firdaus Jahaan Naqvi - Firdaus is a bright and young girl. Firduas had been an emotional and sentimental person in the movie. Firdaus's character also shows maturity and understanding. Firdaus has been infatuated by the noor nizami in the movie from a really early age but due to circumstances they had to part ways and later after they meet again and the spark between them gets reignited.

Tabu as Begum Hazrat Jahaan - Hazrat jahaan was a decrepit character, heartbroken by the man she loved (firdaus’s father) that has led to being cold to her daughter’s wish to be with the man she loves (noor). Hazrat jahaan has turned out to be the most impactful character in the movie as tabu played her part exceptionally.

Controversy

The director of the movie fitoor abhishek kapoor has been surrounded by controversy ever since the movie debuted in theatres. And it seemed that he was not entirely satisfied with the way things were going. At the time sources from the sets stated that Abhishek kapoor was disheartened by the way the movie was shaping up. He was so enraged that he demanded a reshoot of a passionate sequence between Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif, the movie's leading couple, since he felt it wasn't up to the mark.

Box Office Collection

Fitoor turns out to be the year's initial substantial slide after earning only 50 lacs in its second weekend. Fitoor's ten-day earnings amount roughly 18.50 crores, and its lifetime earnings are expected to be in the neighbourhood of 19 crores. After the second weekend, the movie brought in 16.53 crores overseas. Fitoor won't be able to recoup its investments with an estimated 16.50 crores in distributor share. In actuality, the movie, which had a 70 crore budget, has lost over 39 crores.
