Mamta Kulkarni’s Controversies

Topless Photography (90’s)

Mamta Kulkarni entered Bollywood in the 1990s with oomph and sassiness at a time when the majority of women even avoided kissing on camera. She wasn't simply fearless onscreen; in the 1990s she also posed topless for a magazine cover. The image caused a commotion putting the actress on the moral police's radar. She received criticism for the act as well as charges under India's obscenity laws which led to her conviction in 2000.

Burqa

Mamta Kulkarni wore a burqa to the court hearing for her case and she found herself in the middle of yet another controversy. The actress also received death threats after being accused of abusing the burqa and offending Muslims' sensibilities. She said however that she wore the burqa in order to avoid the photographers.

Sexual Assault

Mamta didn't have a particularly successful career in Bollywood and things became worse when director Rajkumar Santoshi wanted to cut her from the cast of his movie China Gate but was unable to do so because of threats he received from the criminal underworld. But when China Gate did poorly at the box office Mamta accused Santoshi of harassing her sexually while they were filming the movie.

Vicky Goswami

When Mamta made the decision to wed drug lord Vicky Goswami in a Dubai jail she rocked the world of Bollywood. Vicky was detained in 1997 on cocaine trafficking charges and given a 25-year prison term. He didn't have faith in anyone so when he was put in jail he handed Mamta complete control of his law business. Mamta handled his business expertly while he was away.

She used to perform for wealthy individuals in Dubai so she had good contacts. She worked incredibly hard and did everything in her power to free Vicky from prison. With the assistance of those wealthy individuals she was able to abolish the death penalty in the first place and then win Vicky's eligibility for several leaves that had been granted to other convicts. Vicky was eventually released from jail after only eight years as a result of her efforts and excellent behaviour.

Yogini- Mamta (early 2000’s)

After a disastrous Bollywood career Mamta slipped into obscurity in the early 2000s. However she made a comeback in 2017 when she shared a photo of herself recently and declared that she had become a yogini. Many of her followers who had only ever seen her on film as a sex symbol in the 1990s were quite shocked by it.
