Ashish Vidyarthi was born on June 19, 1965, in Delhi, India, to a Malayali father from Kannur Kerala, and a Bengali mother from Rajasthan. His father was of Malayali descent and his mother was of Bengali descent. His mother, Reba Vidyarthi, was a Kathak guru, and his father, Govind Vidyarthi, is an expert in the cataloging and archiving of dwindling Performing Arts of India for the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
