Abhimanyu and Vimal have been married for years, but they are unable to conceive a child, which leaves them both heartbroken. Vimal, who loves her husband dearly, insists on him marrying another woman to fulfil his longing for a child. Abhimanyu, hesitant at first, finally agrees to her request, not only to have a child but also to save their marriage.

Enter Vishwas, the son born of Abhimanyu's second marriage. As Vishwas grows older, he becomes rebellious and resentful towards his father, unaware of the sacrifices and struggles Abhimanyu faced to have him in his life.

The film also takes us back to the era of the 1976 Emergency, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi introduced the Family Planning Programme to control the country's population. During the Emergency, police inspector Pintu, tries to enforce forced sterilisation on Abhimanyu. The reason behind this extreme measure is Pintu's desire to prevent Abhimanyu from marrying his sister, Jyoti.

The Marathi movie Aanibani, which is co-produced by Krushna Jagtap, Yogesh Shinde, Sachin Jagtap, Amol Mahadik, and Dinisha Films, was released on July 28, 2023.

Aanibani falls short of expectations with its lacklustre storyline and meandering screenplay. Written by Arvind Jagtap, the movie fails to evoke any significant emotional connection with the audience. Instead, it leaves viewers perplexed, wondering about the writer's true intentions. By the end of the film, one might find themselves exhausted from the unnecessarily prolonged drama, compounded by the nonsensical elements in the plot.

Despite the weaknesses in the story and screenplay, some redeeming aspects are found in the dialogues crafted by Arvind Jagtap, which are passable and manage to hold the film together to some extent.

 Box Office Collection

Aanibani managed to release on schedule despite facing stiff competition from a number of high-profile releases, including Karan Johar's star-studded project Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, as well as other films like Love, LGM - Let's Get Married, Bro, and DD Returns. However, it struggled to make a significant impact at the box office. In addition to the fierce rivalry, there were big Hollywood films in theatres, such as Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig's Barbie, both of which were widely anticipated by moviegoers.

In the face of such stiff competition, Aanibani managed to collect a modest ₹0.13 Crore on its opening day. While the film had its own unique charm as a Marathi comedy-drama, it struggled to attract a larger audience share amid the star-studded and much-hyped releases from both Bollywood and Hollywood.

Aanibani struggles to engage its audience due to its weak storyline and direction. While some performances are noteworthy, they aren't enough to salvage the film. The lacklustre music, ordinary lyrics, and unimpressive technical aspects further dampen the overall viewing experience. Unless you are a die-hard fan of the cast or Marathi cinema, you might want to consider other options for your movie time.
