She first gained widespread recognition when she was crowned Femina Miss India United Continents 2019 at the grand finale of Femina Miss India 2019. The title was awarded to her by the outgoing titleholder Gayatri Bharadwaj on June 15, 2019. Following her success in pageantry, Shreya made her acting debut as Ariana in the web series Dil Dosti Dilemma, which premiered on Amazon Prime on April 25, 2024. She also represented India at the Miss United Continents 2019 pageant held on September 28, 2019, in Ecuador. Additionally, Shreya was ranked No. 25 in The Times Most Desirable Women list in 2019.

Shreya Shanker was born in Patna, Bihar, and completed her high school education in commerce at Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, where she was known for her academic excellence. Following her schooling, she enrolled at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai. Due to her parents' service in the army, Shreya attended ten different schools throughout her education. In addition to her academic pursuits, Shreya is a model, public speaker, and dancer. She is also a state-level air rifle shooting champion and has a passion for playing football.

Shreya has a younger sister, Alina, who is currently studying at Delhi University.
