Bengali stars are actors, singers, or other personalities associated with the Bengali film industry. Bengali Cinema or Tollywood is the name of the Bengali-language film industry in India. Its headquarters are in Kolkata, West Bengal, India's Tollygunge neighborhood. 


The term Tollywood, a mashup of the words Tollygunge and Hollywood, has its roots in 1932. Although the name isn’t to be confused with the Telugu cinema with the same name.


It was once the hub of Indian film production and had a significant historical impact on the film industry. Several of its filmmakers won recognition at the Indian National Film Awards as well as recognition on a global scale. The Bengali film industry is renowned for producing many of Indian cinema's most critically acclaimed global Parallel Cinema and art films.


Konkona Sen Sharma, Mithun Chakraborty, Swastika Mukherjee, Sayantani Ghosh, Debshankar Haldar, Aparna Sen, Sayantani Guhathakurta, Koel Mallick, Raima Sen, Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Megha Chakraborty, Souptic Chakraborty, etc. are among the most prominent actors in Bengali Cinema.


The earliest term derived from Hollywood was Tollywood, which dates back to a 1932 article in the American Cinematographer by American engineer Wilford E. Deming, who worked on the first Indian sound film's creation. 


One of Bengal and India's first directors is recognized as Hiralal Sen. All of these movies were silent. He is seen as a pioneer of commercial filmmaking in India. The Madan Theatre Company of Calcutta's silent film Billwamangal, which debuted on November 8 of that year, was the first Bengali-language motion picture.


Uttam Kumar is currently the most well-known Bengali actor, and Suchitra Sen is thought to be the most attractive and significant female actor in Bengali cinema. In the late 1950s, Kumar and Sen were dubbed "The Eternal Pair." In addition to Sen, two more well-liked actresses of the 1950s were Sabitri Chatterjee and Sumitra Devi.
