History
In August 2021, the Indian Premier League's Governing Council invited bidders to submit proposals for two additional teams. There were a total of 22 businesses that expressed interest, but only six were serious bidders due to the new teams' high base price. A group of three businesses or people were permitted to submit a joint bid for each franchise by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. With a bid of 7,090 crores, Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group was awarded the license to run the Lucknow location.
The team brought a large number of players to the mega auction, which was conducted in February 2022, with a higher proportion of all-rounders. Numerous prominent foreign athletes, including Quinton de Kock, Mark Wood, Krunal Pandya, and Marcus Stoinis, were brought in by the franchise. Later, the team selected Andy Flower, a retired Zimbabwean cricketer, as the team's head coach for the upcoming season and KL Rahul as the team's captain.LSG placed third in the table during its inaugural IPL season, qualifying them for the playoffs. They were eliminated by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were in fourth position, in the Eliminator Match.
Home Ground
The Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium serves as the team's home field. Ekana Cricket Stadium was changed to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in memory of the late Indian Prime Minister. It was founded in that year. It is a public-private collaboration stadium. It rose to the fifth-largest international cricket venue in India with a seating capacity of 50,000. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India, the squad was unable to play any of its matches at home during its inaugural season. As a result, all of the league stage matches of the tournament were hosted by Maharashtra in the 2022 season. The squad has not yet played a game on home soil, but BCCI announced on September 22, 2022, that the league will resume using the old home-and-away format beginning with the 2023 season. It follows that this cricket stadium will serve as the team's main venue.
