Release

20th Century Studios finally got around to releasing their film Death on the Nile in theatres on February 11, 2022. Due to the widespread COVID-19 outbreak, the film's release date had been pushed back multiple times.

It was originally planned that the movie would be released on December 20, 2019, but because of production challenges, the date has been pushed back to October 9, 2020.

After then, it was postponed twice, first to October 23 and then on December 18, because of Tenet's poor domestic box office results during the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie was taken off the studio's release plan for November 2020 until further notice. It was moved to September 17, 2021, the following month.

Due to Tenet's poor domestic box office performance during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was later postponed two weeks to October 23 and once more to December 18. The movie was taken off the studio's release schedule for the near future in November 2020. The movie was moved from that month to September 17, 2021. After that, it was changed to February 11, 2022.

Rotten Tomatoes reports that 62% of 284 critic reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.9/10. The verdict on the website is as follows:  "Old-fashioned to a fault, the solidly entertaining Death on the Nile is enlivened by its all-star cast and director-star Kenneth Branagh's obvious affection for the material."

According to Whip Media, Death on the Nile was the most popular movie to be viewed in the United States across all platforms for the week of April 8, 2022 to April 10, 2022. 

The streaming aggregator Reelgood found that during the week of April 6, 2022, the most popular movie across all platforms was Death on the Nile.

Known for his sharp mind and meticulous attention to detail, Poirot is a renowned investigator who finds himself embroiled in the mysterious murder case onboard the S.S. Karnak. With his signature mustache and distinctive Belgian accent, Poirot is relentless in his pursuit of the truth.

Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle is a wealthy heiress and the unfortunate victim of the murder. She is a beautiful, charming, and intelligent woman who seemingly has it all. Her recent marriage to Simon Doyle, however, sparks a series of events that ultimately lead to her tragic demise.

Simon Doyle is Linnet's charming and handsome husband. A man of humble origins, he finds himself entangled in a web of deceit and betrayal as dark secrets from his past begin to surface. As the husband of the murder victim, he becomes one of the prime suspects in the case.

Once a close friend of Linnet, Jacqueline de Bellefort is a passionate and headstrong woman driven by jealousy and resentment. Her former fiancé, Simon Doyle, left her for Linnet, and this betrayal fuels her desire for revenge. Jacqueline's presence on the cruise adds a layer of tension and suspicion to the story.

Behind the Scenes

On September 30, 2019, principal photography began at Longcross Studios in Surrey, England. The film was planned to be shot in Morocco rather than Egypt, however it was only shot in England.

Both a boat and the Temple of Abu Simbel were re-created in this project. For the sake of the movie, a reproduction of the Tiffany Yellow Diamond was used. The shooting continued till the 18th of December in 2019.

Box Office Collection

The United States and Canada contributed $45.6 million to the worldwide total of $137.3 million that Death on the Nile made at the box office, while other territories contributed $91.6 million.

Death on the Nile was one of the films that was released in the United States and Canada with Marry Me and Blacklight. It was anticipated that the film would earn between $11 and 17 million dollars during its opening weekend in 3,280 theatres.

Awards

At the 47th Saturn Awards, the movie was nominated for Best Action/Adventure Film but fell short to Top Gun: Maverick. Additionally, it was nominated for a 21st Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature.
