Sunidhi Chauhan is a playback singer from India. She began performing in neighborhood gatherings at the age of 5 and made her professional debut at the age of 13 with the film Shastra (1996). During the year she won Meri Awaz Suno the first singing reality show and came to popularity after recording Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi from Mast (1999). It earned her the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent as well as a nomination for Best Female Playback Singer. She is well-known for her vocal versatility.
In addition to playback singing Chauhan has appeared as a judge on various television reality shows and in music videos. Aside from her singing profession she has been involved in a number of charities and societal issues. She has appeared four times in India's Forbes Celebrity 100. (2012–2015).
Sunidhi Chauhan is 39 years old as of 2022. She was born on 14 August 1983. Her zodiac sign is Leo. Her birthplace is New Delhi India.
Chauhan began performing at competitions and small gatherings at the age of four and was later persuaded to take singing seriously by her father's friends. During that time she was doing live events and trained herself with regular riyaaz by listening to cassettes and CDs of popular music.
When Tabassum saw her she made her sing live on her show Tabassum Hit Parade and asked her family to relocate to Mumbai. She thereafter introduced Chauhan to Kalyanji and Anandji Virji Shah. When they first met Kalyanji changed her name from Nidhi to Sunidhi because he thought it was a lucky name. Her father quit his work and brought her to Mumbai when she was 11 years old. Initially the family faced financial challenges as they adjusted to city life.
She then spent a few years at Kalyanji's academy before becoming the lead singer in his Little Wonders company. Many shows were then presented to her but her father insisted on her singing for films.
She attended Greenway Modern School and lived in Dilshad Garden Delhi with her family members. She dropped out of school immediately after graduation to seek a career in the music industry. She stated: I dropped out because I didn't want to study. I decided to pursue my ambition of being a singer and I have no regrets.
Sunidhi Chauhan was born in New Delhi India on August 14 1983. Her father Dushyant Kumar Chauhan is an actor at the Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra in Uttar Pradesh. Her mother a housewife encouraged Chauhan to pursue a musical career. She has a younger sibling as well.
Chauhan married director and choreographer Bobby Khan (brother of choreographer and director Ahmed Khan) in 2002 when she was 18 years old after working on the music video Pehla Nasha. She and Khan divorced a year later. Sunidhi and music composer Hitesh Sonik married on April 24 2012 after dating for more than two years. Chauhan gave birth to a son named Tegh on January 1 2018.
Sunidhi faced a lot of criticism in her family when she wanted to marry director Bobby Khan who was 14 years her senior at the age of 18. Bobby was also a Muslim and much older than Sunidhi. After working on the music video Pehla Nasha Chauhan married director and choreographer Bobby Khan (brother of choreographer and director Ahmed Khan) in 2002 at the age of 18.
According to reports the couple married in a private ceremony attended by only their closest friends. The marriage however produced a split between Sunidhi and her parents who judged the match unsuitable and disowned her.
Despite this she and Khan divorced a year later prompting her parents to reconnect. She stayed with actor Annu Kapoor and his wife Arunita throughout their divorce and filed for divorce the following year claiming that they wanted different things in life.
Sunidhi had welcomed music composer Hitesh Sonik into her life giving love a second opportunity. Sunidhi and Hitesh married in 2012 after dating for more than two years. Sunidhi has been married to Hitesh Sonik for eight years and various allegations of their divorce have recently surfaced in the media.
Sunidhi has finally spoken out about the separation rumors assuring that things are fine with the couple. Everything is well now the singer told a leading daily. Hitesh and I live together. Sunidhi plainly stated 'no remarks' when asked about these rumors last year. Sunidhi and Hitesh married in 2012 and their son Tegh is two years old.
Chauhan was performing with the group Little Wonders at the 40th Filmfare Awards in 1995 when late music director Aadesh Shrivastava heard her and recorded her voice for the film Shastra. She made her film debut at the age of eleven with the song Ladki Deewani Dekho with Udit Narayan.
During the year she won the first singing reality show on DD National Meri Awaz Suno for which she was awarded the Lata Mangeshkar Trophy as India's best female singer. In addition she released her debut solo album Aira Gaira Nathu Khaira which was eventually marketed as a children's CD.

Within two weeks Chauhan was signed to record the title track as well as Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi and Suna Tha for the film's soundtrack. She received the RD Burman award for the song Ruki Ruki Si at the Annual Filmfare Awards and was nominated for Best Female Playback Singer at the same ceremony.

Anu Malik the composer had to rewrite the lyrics to 'aa narmi le mere aankhon se (bask in the softness of my eyes)'. Sunidhi considered the song came to her most naturally because it was recorded in 15 minutes. Chauhan was nominated for the second Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Mehboob Mere.

But I do my best to avoid being typecast in the future. I strive to keep myself and my voice from sounding monotonous. I strive to sing a variety of songs to be versatile in the industry and to let people know that I don't sing the same type of songs Sunidhi explains.
In an interview with the Times of India the acclaimed singer made a stunning accusation claiming that she too was requested to laud the contestants. She called it a basic thing and went on to say that it was the reason she couldn't continue with the reality programme and had to break ways.
She also stated that it is the primary reason she is not currently judging any reality shows. Not exactly this ki sabko karna hai she was quoted as saying but certainly we were all instructed (to praise). That was the basic point. As a result I was unable to continue. I couldn't do what they asked so we parted ways. As a result I'm not judging any reality shows today.
When asked about the cause behind Amit Kumar's outrage she simply stated that 'it is done to attract the audience's attention. I believe that is done to attract attention she explained. I believe it is necessary to do so in order to keep your audience's attention. I suppose it works.

She also appeared in Yuvraj Singh's social project YouWeCan which attempts to battle cancer by raising awareness about the condition. Chauhan has lent her voice to a music video for John Lennon's Imagine.
The film was made as part of UNICEF's global campaign to mark the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Chauhan represented India at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival an annual music festival intended to celebrate the introduction of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) a to-do list of 17 activities aimed at ending extreme global poverty by 2030.
