Manyata was raised in Dubai and is a member of a Muslim family. Three years after her birth her businessman father relocated to Dubai. Thus Manyata finished her education in Dubai. Her real name is Manyata Dutt according to her biography. Dilnaz Sheik  is her true name.

Although she is known as Sara Khan throughout the entire Bollywood industry. On the other side Manyata was given the chance to dance to the item number by Prakash Jha. For Gangajal that is. However there was a need that Dilnaz change her name to Manyata. Alhad Mast Jawani a song from the Gangajal movie featuring Manyata Dutt. She was given the screen name Manyata by Jha when she made her acting debut in Kamaal Rashid Khan's Deshdrohi in 2008 but when her father passed away and she was left in charge of the family company her hopes to become a star were put on hold.

Manyata's first marriage was with Meraj-ur-Rehman Sheikh. Even after Manyata married Sanjay Dutt he insisted that he was still her husband. According to Muslim law they wed in 2005 and Manyata's first husband claimed that they even have a two-and-a-half-year-old child.

Sheikh accused Manyata of having an adulterous relationship with Sanjay Dutt. Meraj even provided photographic evidence of their wedding and honeymoon. In addition a case was brought before the Bandra magistrate regarding Manyata's marriage to Sanjay without obtaining a divorce from her previous union. But Manyata prevailed in this instance.

Meraj requested custody of his son in a court proceeding in Mumbai. He stated that he desires his son's return. The Mumbai Session Court however turned down his appeal. He then accused Manyata of being married to Sanjay Dutt and then divorcing him. Meraj reversed the lower court's decision for this reason. Manyata and Meraj were officially divorced by the Mumbai Court allowing Manyata to lawfully wed Sanjay Dutt.

Meraj was described as a struggling author in the papers. He was given a prison term after being charged with sending cheap and nasty messages to Bollywood actresses.
