The serial was shot in Rajkot, Gujarat because the story depicts the life of a Gujarati family. The show portrays an authentic Gujarati family for which the location was spot on.

Saath Nibhana Saathiya plot

Saath Nibhana Saathiya is set in the Modi family and focused on the morals and values of a normal Gujarati joint family when cousins Gopi and Rashi married Modi sons Ahem and Jigar.

After her parents died, Gopi, an illiterate, shy child, was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Urmila and Jeetu. Rashi Shah, Urmila and Jeetu's daughter, is intelligent and friendly. Gopi and Rashi married the Modi family's sons Ahem and Jigar, who are cousins. Gopi becomes smarter and more confident as a result of Kokila, Ahem's sturdy and kind-hearted mother.

 Rashi frequently tries to cause her problems but later regrets it, and the two are happily embraced. Kinjal, Ahem's sister, marries Dhaval, Rashi's cousin. Gopi and Ahem have a daughter named Meera later on, while Rashi and Jigar have twin sons named Sahir and Samar.

Gopi discovers that her parents are still alive and joins them. Radha marries Umang Mehta, whose first wife Tripti assassinates him. Radha holds Gopi responsible for Umang's death and intends to harm Meera. Gopi discovers she is pregnant once more but is unable to inform her family.

When the family goes out on a picnic, Radha orchestrates a mishap in which Gopi throws Meera into the river by accident. Gopi is held guilty of Meera's death by Kokila, and she is forced to leave the house for stealing the family's happiness. The storylines further took the several gaps describing the journey of Gopi as a mother, daughter, sister, daughter-in- law and wife.

After getting viral of a scene from Saath Nibhana Saathiya, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya 2, a spiritual sequel and second season of the series, premiered on Star Plus on October 19, 2020, with Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Rupal Patel, Nazim in cameos and Sneha Jain, Harsh Nagar in the lead roles.
