A journalist is someone who acquires information in the form of text, audio, or photos, transforms it into a form that is newsworthy, and then makes it available to the public. Journalism refers to the primary act or process carried out by a journalist.
Depending on the type of journalism, the term journalist may also include different groups of people depending on the roles they play in the process.
Journalists can work in broadcast, print, advertising, and public relations. Reporters, correspondents, citizen journalists, editors, columnists, editorial writers, and visual journalists, such as photojournalists, are all included in this.
Journalists occasionally put themselves in risk, especially when they cover violent conflicts or countries that don't value press freedom. Reports on press freedom are published by groups like Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists, which also promote press freedom.
Journalists also specialise in a specific sect of Journalism. The main Journalism Sections include Investigative Journalism, Political Journalism, Crime Journalism, Bussiness Journalism, Arts Journalism, Celebrity Journalism, Sports Journalism, etc.
According to the World Press Freedom Index India ranks 150th among 180 other countries. It fell from 133 To 150 from 2016 to 2021.
