Soundarya revealed in September 2016 that she and her husband had filed for divorce by mutual consent due to irreconcilable differences. The couple officially divorced in July 2017.

Vishagan Vanangamudi

On 11 February 2019 she married Vishagan Vanangamudi an actor and businessman at the Leela Palace in Chennai. In 2022 their son Veer was born. Both Soundarya and Vishagan have admitted that their marriage was an arranged marriage arranged by their parents. 

Their meeting was followed by regular chit-chat and get-togethers. Soundarya admits that she had reservations about the match and was not ready for another commitment after her divorce but her interaction with Vishagan clicked with her right away.

Vishagan is responsible and caring for Ved according to Soundarya. Ved had gone missing during a wedding ritual and Vishagan declared that the couple would not marry until Ved returned.

Soundarya and Vishagan recently took to Instagram to announce the birth of their son. Veer which means brave is the name given to the couple's son. The news has gone viral on the internet today and their fans can't wait to see baby Veer.

In 2007 Ocher Studios and Warner Bros Entertainment agreed to collaborate on the production and distribution of Tamil films. Sultan: The Warrior a 3D animated film starring her father Rajinikanth was supposed to be her directorial debut. Despite extensive pre-production promotion including a teaser and an interactive website the film was cancelled. Instead she directed Kochadaiiyaan India's first motion capture film starring Rajinikanth. 

Soundarya made history by becoming the first woman to direct her father in a feature film with Kochadaiiyaan. She was honoured for Technical Innovation in Film at the 2014 NDTV Indian of the Year Awards. May 6 Entertainment is a production company she founded in 2019. She founded Hoote a voice-messaging-based social media platform.

She worked on the pre-production of Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam with Dhanush Kajal Aggarwal and Manjima Mohan in 2016 but the film was later cancelled. Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 shot in Tamil and Telugu was her next directorial venture.

Kochadaiiyaan: The Legend

Kochadaiiyaan: The Legend is a 2014 Indian Tamil-language 3D animated action film directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth and written by K. S. Ravikumar. It is India's first photorealistic motion capture film with characters based on the likeness and appearance of their respective actors.

Rajinikanth who is also Soundarya's father played and voiced two lead roles in the film as well as a surprise role in the climax. 

Kochadaiiyaan was marketed as a tribute to the centennial of Indian cinema and was released on May 23 2014 in Tamil and five additional languages including Hindi Telugu Bengali Marathi and Punjabi. Overall the film received a mixed critical reception around the world.

Soundarya Rajnikanth directed the 2017 Indian Tamil-language comedy drama film Velaiilla Pattadhari 2. It is a sequel to the 2014 film Velaiilla Pattadhari with Dhanush Amala Paul Vivek Hrishikesh Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani reprising their roles while Kajol plays an antagonistic role marking her return to Tamil cinema after 20 years with her most recent film being Minsara Kanavu (1997). 

This film was primarily shot in Tamil and it was partially reshot in Telugu under the title VIP 2 in which Dhanush appeared in additional scenes. Dhanush in addition to acting co-produced the film with N. Ramasamy and wrote the script and dialogues. Sean Roldan composed the music.
