The story of Zindagi Mere Ghar Aana serial begins with the middle-class Sakhuja family, who are mourning the death of their eldest son, Karan Sakhuja, who died suddenly. Karan was killed while working as a health warrior and treating COVID-19 victims. Karan's pregnant widow, Amrita, hides her sorrow and attempts to cheer up her family. However, the Sakhujas' bad luck continues when Guneet and Angad, the family's sole breadwinners, lose their source of income.

Pritam Choudhary, the Sakhujas' renter, arrives in their lives at a time when the Sakhuja is in a state of severe mental and financial hardship.
