The 2017 action-thriller movie Velaikkaran, which translates to "Worker," was written and directed by Mohan Raja. produced under the 24AM Studios label by R. D. Raja. Sivakarthikeyan, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Sneha, and Prakash Raj play the prominent roles in the movie. Supporting actors include Mahesh Manjrekar, Sathish, Thambi Ramaiah, RJ Balaji, Vijay Vasanth, Robo Shankar, Sudarsanam, and Rohini. Ramji handled the film's cinematography, and Anirudh Ravichander handled the soundtrack. A sales representative named Arivazhagan (Sivakarthikeyan) battles against food adulteration done by upscale businesses in the movie.

The movie was released on December 22, 2017, to generally favourable reviews that praised the acting, plot, script, cinematography, soundtrack by Anirudh, and background music.

Arivazhagan, also known as Arivu, is a native of the Chennai slum Kolaikkara Kuppam, also known as Cooliekkara Kuppam. He is one of those mature young people who puts a lot of effort into improving the lives of other people. Arivu launches Kuppam FM 90.8, a neighbourhood radio station, with the assistance of local mobster Kasi. In truth, Arivu seeks to rescue the locals from Kasi's crimes, who hinder them from becoming independent on purpose so that he can maintain his dominance.

By successfully swaying the locals against Kasi, Arivu eliminates his support. Later, Arivu joins Saffron, a well-known FMCG company, and works in Stella Bruce's sales department.

He meets Aadhi, the brand manager for Saffron, who shows him how to advance by performing clever work. Arivu views him as an inspiration.

On the evening of April 1, Kasi and his gang stab Bhagya at Saffron's warehouse, causing him to pass away in Arivu's arms. Raging Arivu tries to attack Kasi, but Kasi's adversary Doss counters with an attack and a stabbing in retribution for their prior fight. Kasi receives criticism from Arivu for being a hired goon. Arivu learns through Kasi that Jayaram, the president of Saffron, hired him to kill Bhagya. The reason was that Kasthuri, who filed a lawsuit alleging that Saffron's products were contaminated and caused her to lose her son, tried to assist Bhagya.

Kasi refers to Arivu as being a worse hitman than himself. After saving Kasi, Arivu learns that all Saffron-produced goods are contaminated. In addition to Saffron, Arivu sets out on a mission to combat these wrongdoings at all five of the world's largest food firms, including the one run by Madhav Kurup. All of Arivu's plans are disclosed to Aadhi. Aadhi is actually Adhiban Madhav, Madhav's son, it has now been discovered. He joined Saffron in order to learn their business strategies and merge it with his father's business.

For two days, Arivu is able to persuade the employees of his company to produce goods in accordance with legal requirements.

Meanwhile, he persuades the employees of the other businesses to cover their faces for the next two days, fooling the owners into thinking that their employees are on the side of the competition. Aadhi, on the other hand, manages to thwart Arivu's scheme and forces the other owners to transfer the majority of their company's shares to Madhav, making him the last arbiter of all their businesses.

By convincing the workers that Arivu was a spy for Madhav, Aadhi is able to turn them against Arivu. Stella Bruce then slaps and degrades Arivu as Aadhi plays the victim's advocate, insisting that Arivu is innocent and that the new president is to blame for all of this.

Arivu then tells Aadhi that Stella Bruce was his ally, allowing him to realise that Aadhi is the real traitor. The untainted goods are subsequently destroyed by fire, and Aadhi tells Arivu that he is Madhav's son and will take over as the company's CEO.

Aadhi also uses cunning methods to persuade the staff to nominate him as the new CEO. Once he has their allegiance, support, and trust, he also reveals to Arivu that he would order them to create contaminated goods without their awareness. On the eve of May 1, Arivu visits the Radio Mirchi radio station.

He says that following the fire, Karpaga Vinayagam, one of the hurt department directors of Saffron, brought him into the ambulance and informed him that he had adhered to the rules on the third day as well.

After producing quality goods for two days, Kennedy, Vinoth, Ansari, and Sivaranjani of the Saffron team told Arivu that they could not bring themselves to produce contaminated goods the next day. They attest that everyone followed the law and produced high-quality goods the following day. Aadhi, who is now the CEO, overhears the workers threatening to mutiny and remove him if he attempts to resume producing contaminated goods.

Arivu continues by saying that no employee's devotion should be wasted by being shown to unscrupulous bosses. The failure of his strategy causes Aadhi to subsequently express his anger. As the movie comes to a close, everyone in the city stands by Arivu as he celebrates his victory with Mrinalini, his love interest, as well as friends, family, residents of his slum, and city residents.
