The Empire is a Disney+ Hotstar period drama web series written by Nikkhil Advani and directed by Mitakshara Kumar, based on Alex Rutherford's novel series Empire of the Moghul. On August 27, 2021, the series launched on Disney+ Hotstar.

Starting with Babur, the series depicts the rise and collapse of the Mughal Empire. The narrative begins in Farghana, where following the death of his father, Umar Sheikh, the young prince Babur is anointed emperor at an early age. Esan  Daulat Begum, his grandmother, advises him on how to reign. He begins his mission to conquer North India  through difficulties, betrayals by his court members, and tribulations. He was later vanquished by Muhammad Shaybani Khan, and Khanzada was forced to marry Shaibani as part of a pact to preserve their lives. She then falls in love with him, but she chooses her brother above him, deceives him, and ends up being the reason for his death.

The first season focuses on Babur and his quest to conquer Northern India. The creator of the show, Nikhil Advani, mentioned that this series is not just about the rise and fall of the Mughal Empire but also about the women behind the rise of the empire and how they were a major part of the politics, something that wasn't covered before by any creator. 

The Empire gives a vast insight about what exactly happened during the Mughal Era, something that is not covered entirely in the history textbooks. The direction, accuracy and the visually stunning backdrop is what makes this series one to watch with your family. The show also stars some very famous actors like Imaad Shah, Gracy Goswami and Rahul Dev, among others, in lead roles.
