Sound designers produce or compile high-quality audio files for interactive media projects like video games, applications, and operating systems, either as independent contractors or as members of a larger audio team. 

Sound effects, a background score, and voice-over are some of the audio components that sound designers are in charge of.

Similar to sound effects editors in the film industry, a sound designer's primary task is to search through commercial audio libraries for the right sounds for a project. If the right sounds cannot be found or obtained, a sound designer must record sounds in the studio or on location and use a digital audio workstation (DAW) to process them into the desired effect or tone. 

However, sound designers accomplish much more than this. Since sound designers are truly jacks of all trades, in addition to setting up microphones, recording and editing conversation and field sounds, they may also mix sound and incorporate it into the game engine.

A sound designer on a larger-budget project might be a little more specialised than one who works on an independent game; for instance, conversation editors and audio implementers are terms for sound designers that specialise in editing dialogue and integrating audio into the game world, respectively.

A bachelor's degree in audio engineering or a similar subject is typically required for sound designers. Despite being an entry-level post, getting it is difficult and calls for a strong portfolio.

The basic professional skills a sound designer needs are Sound design knowledge, Audio Implementation, Audio Production, Audio Recording, Audio Editing, Sound Libraries knowledge, and coding (C or C++).
