Ramanand Sagar is the creator, writer, and director of the historical television series Shri Krishna often referred to as Krishna. Based on the Bhagavata Purana, Harivamsa, Vishnu Purana, Padma Purana, Bhagavad Gita, and Mahabharata, it is an adaptation of the narrative of Krishna's life. Initially, Doordarshan Metro broadcast the program once a week.

 

Shri Krishna was aired on 18 July 1993 and ended on 5 October 1997.  Shri Krishna was broadcasted on Door Darshan under the banner of Sagar Arts. Actress Shweta Rastogi played the role of teenage Radha and gained much love and fame from the audience through this show.

 

The plot of the story describes Krishna’s life and adventure. Devki, who resides in Mathura, and her husband Gokul lead affluent lives. In a kingdom controlled by her brother, the despotic and eternal Kans, the marriage is childless. When Kans learns that Devki's eighth kid, a Bhagwan Shri Vishnu avatar, will kill him, he imprisons the couple in a cell and kills all seven of their children in a systematic manner. Vishnuji tells Devi Maa Jogmaya to succeed him after the eighth child is born, and as a result, she will be venerated as Chandika, Navdurga, Kalika, and Amba.

 

Gokul is successful in sneaking his eighth child into Nand's home, and he brings Yogmaya back with him. Krishnaji, who is raised by his foster mother Yashoda, takes clarified butter, taunts girls, raises Mount Govardhan with his little finger, kills demons sent by Kans, Puthna and Tarnavat, the sister of Yamraj, cleanses the Yamuna of Kaali Naag, and falls in love with Radha, a local beauty.  And Several more adventures of Shri Krishna were described in this show.
