Govinda plays two roles in the comedy Sandwich (2006), which stars Mahima Chaudhry and Raveena Tandon in opposite roles. In supporting parts, it also features Satish Shah, Mushtaq Khan, and Anang Desai. Anees Bazmee is the director of the movie. It was released on 25 August 2006 after delays of more than 3 years. 

Sher Singh, often known as Shekhar, a struggling screenwriter for motion pictures, is in love with the fickle Marathi girl Nisha. subsequently visits Swami Trilok and informs him that he will shortly wed two women. Sher Singh becomes anxious. Nisha's affluent father, however, arranges for her marriage to Vicky, the son of a friend who has loved Nisha for a very long time. After receiving a telegram, Sher Singh immediately heads home to discover that his marriage has been planned with Sweetie, a local Punjabi girl who has loved him since childhood. In exchange for the union of his sister with Sweetie's brother. Sher's sister may not have a lot of options for finding a nice husband because she has a physical handicap in her leg. Therefore, Sher marries Sweetie and goes back to Mumbai for the benefit of his sister.

Nisha, meantime, is prepared to commit herself because she won't marry Vicky. Her father makes Sher marry Nisha in order to appease her. Sher is unable to give an explanation of his first marriage. However, he admits to Nisha's father that he is already married after the wedding. Sher is advised not to reveal anything by Nisha's father. Vicky loses his mind and makes an attempt to kidnap Nisha because he wants to marry her. Nisha never learns the truth about Sher's bigamy since Vicky appears to die in an accident after Nisha's father is slain in the ensuing conflict.

7 years pass by and Sher Singh lives two lives and has a son with each of his wives. Tuktuk Shekhar and Tony Singh, the two sons, have a striking resemblance. The boys and their mothers become friends after being accepted into the same school. Sher Singh manages to persuade his wives that there are two people—Sher Singh and Shekhar—because he goes by Shekhar while he is in Mumbai. As a result, he spends the day with Sweetie and the night with Nisha. Meanwhile, because of their similarities, his sons continue to look into their suspicions that something is amiss. There is a surprise aspect in the entrance of a second Shekhar with the same face, who claims to be Nisha's husband, just when it nearly appears like the truth will come out.

As a stranger now stays with his wife Nisha, Sher Singh is forced to choose between confessing to being a bigamist and remaining silent. In the meantime, he is also charged with murder. In the end, it is revealed that Vicky is not genuinely dead as previously believed and has undergone facial reconstruction to resemble Sher Singh. Vicky was about to kill Sher and his family, but both of his wives fought for him and spared him. Vicky wants Nisha and tries to get close to her, but Sher rejects the idea. After much farce, everything turns out well.
