An Indian soap opera in Hindi called Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi ran on Star Plus from July 4, 2000, to November 7, 2008. Under the auspices of their company Balaji Telefilms, Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor jointly produced the programme. It stars Smriti Irani, Ronit Roy, Sudhir Dalvi, Achint Kaur, Sudha Shivpuri, and Gurpreet Kaur Chadda.
The protagonist of the play was a perfect in-law, the grandson of wealthy business tycoon Govardhan Virani married to the daughter of a pandit. Smriti Irani performed the part of Tulsi Virani.
The series, which is set in Mumbai, centres on the affluent Gujarati Virani family, where Savita, Daksha, and Gayatri, the three daughters-in-law, rule the entire household and cause difficulties for their wise and sympathetic mother-in-law Amba. Savita arranges her son Mihir's marriage to the haughty Payal, but he later falls in love with and marries Tulsi, the daughter of the local priest. The Viranis accept Tulsi, who ultimately wins Savita over as well and gives birth to Gautam. Mihir has an accident and is thought to be dead.
Mihir is still alive but has memory loss. Dr. Mandira, his caregiver, develops feelings for him. When Tulsi's brother Anupam makes a marriage proposal to her, she accepts but later decides against it because Mihir is still alive.He gets his memory back. Mandira pretends to be expecting his child. Tulsi experiences another pregnancy. Payal plots to harm the Viranis but is found out. The childless Kiran and Aarti, the brother of Mihir, receive Gautam from Tulsi. Shobha, Tulsi's daughter, is born. Along with Gautam, Aarti and Kiran depart India.
Tulsi and Mihir have a second son, Harsh, 20 years later. With Kiran and Aarti, who now have a daughter named Karishma, Gautam returns. About his birth parents, Gautam is made aware. Although Tulsi wants him to marry Ganga, Gautam marries Teesha instead. While Shobha marries Vishal, Sahil, Gautam's cousin, marries Ganga. A mishap claims Teesha's life.
Damini, whom Gautam remarries, subsequently becomes pregnant at the same time as Ganga. Damini gives birth to twins, Mayank and Nakul, while Ganga has a miscarriage. Karan, the son of Mihir and Mandira who favours her over Mandira, is accepted by Tulsi. Although Nandini and Karan are in love, he arranges for her to wed Ansh, who rapes her while they are married.
Meera Singhania, a lawyer and Mihir's friend, grows fond of him. Ansh is shot by Tulsi as he attempts to assassinate Nandini, who delivered Bhoomi, her and Karan's daughter, before going into a coma. To take care of Bhoomi, Karan marries his friend Tanya. Lakshya is the son of Ganga and Sahil.
After three years, Tanya is expecting. Nandini awakes, moves in with Karan, and they later get married. Aditya loses his life while attempting to abduct Bhoomi; Nandini accepts responsibility and is imprisoned, but she is carrying Karan's child. Eklavya, the son of Ansh and his first wife Shraddha, is adopted by Gautam. As Ganga is abandoned, Sahil has a relationship with and marries his coworker Tripti. Meera betrays Tulsi and Mandira in an effort to win over Mihir.
. Savita promises to expose them but is killed by them. Meera assigns blame to Tulsi, who is expelled.
The grandchildren of Tulsi are now adults after 25 years. She is parenting Krishna Tulsi, an orphan, in Haridwar. Nandini is missing from prison and is thought to be dead. Ganga and the family are no longer close. As Meera is exposed and put in jail for killing Savita, Tulsi leaves Mumbai and joins the Viranis. Eklavya, a man who resembles Ansh, is wed to Krishna Tulsi. When Baa passes away, her will leaves her whole estate to an unidentified party. The long-lost son of Karan and Nandini who has inherited Baa's property, Parth, is mentioned by an unidentified woman (Sakshi Tanwar) to Tulsi in the final episode.
