Neerja is a Hindi autobiographical thriller movie. The Neerja movie is based on a true incident: the attempted hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 by the Abu Nidal Organization, who had Libyan support, on September 5, 1986, in Karachi, Pakistan. 

The head purser of the flight, Neerja Bhanot, who stopped the hijack attempt by warning the pilots and forcing them to ground the aircraft, is portrayed in the movie. Bhanot lost her life while attempting to save the 359 survivors among the 379 passengers and crew.

Neerja was released in the year 2016 on the 19th of February. Neerja is also available on OTT platforms like Disney + Hotstar. The movie is as long as 121 minutes.

Ram Madhwani alongside Shivansu Anshika Sachan as an assistant directed Neerja. Atul Kasbekar and Shanti Sivaram Maini are the producers. The movie Neerja stars Sonam Kapoor in the lead role and also includes Shekhar Ravjiani, Yogendra Tiku, Shabana Azmi, Jim Sarbh, and Meghana Kaushik.
