Lavanya "Pinky" Kashyap is a promising comedian who is mocked frequently because of her diminutive stature. She marries Gagan but she soon learns of his extramarital affair which causes "Pinky" to leave the family and return to her mother's house. They agree to move in with  Arjun at his urging but only if he requires a rent deposit. Pinky seeks divorce from Gagan with the aid of Arjun. Pinky begins to dress up as Imarti, which her dadi, ultimately her mother Nalini, and aunt Antara (her father's sister) become aware of. In order to help Arjun obtain custody of Nandu, who is later revealed to be his adoptive daughter after he and Ananya had three miscarriages, she also marries him as Imarti (as their phoney marriage turns out to be a true one).
