In 2008, Nishikant Kamat and Ronnie Screwvala released the drama film Mumbai Meri Jaan. Kay Kay Menon, Paresh Rawal, Irrfan Khan, Soha Ali Khan, and Madhavan, Anand Goradia, Vineet Sharma, Ayesha Raza, Santosh Juvekar and Vijay Maurya are among its cast members. It addresses the repercussions from the 11 July 2006 Mumbai train bombings, which resulted in 209 fatalities and over 700 injuries.
Successful journalist Rupali Joshi is getting hitched in two months. Executive Nikhil Agrawal is expecting his first kid and commutes to work daily by train out of concern for the environment. Suresh is a failing computer technician who spends his day disparaging Muslims and lazing at a nearby cafe. While everything is going on, Sunil Kadam is dealing with his employer Tukaram Patil's impending retirement and the corruption and incompetence of the Mumbai police department.
When a bomb goes off in the first class cabin of a train on July 11, Nikhil and Suresh are in the second class compartment. The two are still alive, but Nikhil is diagnosed with acute stress disorder and is too scared to board a train ever again. Suresh becomes fixated on punishing the Muslims in the city, and it is only Kadam and Patil's patrol that prevents him from provoking them. Thomas, a street seller who is mistreated by Kadam and Patil, starts calling malls with bogus bomb alarm reports in an effort to cope. Thomas feels bad and chooses to halt when an elderly guy had a heart attack when the cops are evacuating one mall.
When Rupali learns that her fiancé perished in the explosions, she is saddened. She had hurried to the site of the explosions to report the news. When the news organisation she works for seeks to use her story to boost its ratings, her sorrow is made worse. Suresh is pursuing a Muslim who he believes to be a terrorist in the meantime. Suresh accepts the man, though, when Patil interrupts him and instructs him on racial harmony.
Nikhil is compelled to catch a train to the hospital after his wife goes into labour. The city of Mumbai pauses for two minutes to observe a minute of silence in memory of those who perished in the blasts. When Patil ultimately leaves the police, Kadam pardons him for his unscrupulous behaviour. Nikhil conquers his fear of trains, while Thomas offers the older gentleman whose cardiac arrest he was responsible for a rose.
