A 2019 Hindi-language action comedy movie titled Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota was written and directed by Vasan Bala and produced by RSVP Movies' Ronnie Screwvala. Abhimanyu Dassani, Radhika Madan, Gulshan Devaiah, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Jimit Trivedi play the main characters in the movie. The young man in the movie, who suffers from a rare illness called Congenital insensitivity to pain, sets out on a mission to defeat his enemies.
Surya experiences a terrible birth with an odd condition. His father and his wicked grandfather Ajoba, who make an odd couple together, care for him because he has the rare condition CIP. A youngster who doesn't experience pain and is bullied at school has a terrible time fitting in, but Surya finds an unusual ally in his next-door neighbour, Supri. Thanks to his grandfather's special instruction, Surya learns at home how to treat his own wounds and binges on a tonne of martial arts movies on VHS cassettes. Surya can only watch one tape, which features a mystery one-legged man named Karate Mani competing in a 100-man karate kumite match.
His venture into vigilantism is intended to protect Supri from her abusive father, but as a result of the family's eviction from the home they occupied, Surya and Supri became estranged as kids. They part ways, with each finding mentorship and a purpose in a peculiar situation. Ajoba urges Surya to quietly pursue his desire, and Surya trains on VHS tapes. Supri is being trained by Karate Mani, whom she encounters after she unintentionally collides with his scooter.
Because of his father's refusal to allow him to leave the house, Surya, now a young man, continues to be as awkward as he was when he was younger. Surya discovers a poster for his childhood hero Karate Mani when his dad eventually accepts to let him outdoors. This poster directs him to the same structure where he and Supri had previously been split up, and Supri is the one who is affixing the posters. Although they are unfamiliar with one another, he is amazed when she fends off assailants to save a woman. Later, Surya meets Karate Mani at the place indicated on the poster. His assistant contacts Supri to assist him after he discovers that Jimmy, his evil twin, has knocked him out. When the others depart from the hospital that they take him to, only Supri and Surya remain.
Mani regains consciousness and departs the hospital after Supri leaves on the urging of her boyfriend Atul. Mani believes the hospital would charge him a lot for unnecessary care. Mani is intrigued by Surya's prowess and asks about his past as he pursues him and repels the hospital workers who had come to arrest him. His father, a Karate instructor, has been teaching Mani and Jimmy since they were young.
Jimmy stole the locket that their father had given to Mani on his previous visit, and Surya swears to retrieve it for him. His grandfather attempts to talk him out of it because it's too risky, but he eventually caves when he realises he shouldn't kill this important motivator. Mani refuses to go with Surya to Jimmy when they first meet, but when Surya won't give up, he goes with him to Jimmy's office. Supri's mother urges her to leave Atul so that she won't suffer the same fate as a domineering spouse when they are waiting to board their trip to Canada at the airport.
She comes up with a scheme where she pretends Supri isn't on board the aircraft and takes a large quantity of insulin when it lands in Canada, causing her to pass out and need to be taken to the hospital to be treated. After some prodding from her mother, Supri departs and immediately heads to Jimmy's office, knowing Surya would cause a scene there. A brawl breaks out between the two and Jimmy's crew inside his office. Most of them are quickly defeated by Surya, who is more lethal because he doesn't feel pain, which surprises them.
The crew locks them in a room and flees the building after the ensuing brawl starts a fire. They are saved when Supri arrives in time. They subsequently seek refuge in their former childhood home, which is now empty due to construction, and Ajoba provides them with all of their basic needs, including food and blankets.
They are all abducted by Jimmy early in the morning, and he sets up a brutal game in which each of them must face off against a member of his staff. Mani is the first to go, then Supri, Surya, and Ajoba. Before falling, Supri and Mani take out a number of men. With the exception of one, they all assault Surya, and Surya eliminates them all. The only fighter Jimmy has left is also his best. He modifies the regulations to make it a 10-point battle in which every hit results in a point just to terminate the fight swiftly. When Surya's opponent breaks his leg, Surya feels hurt. Mani reaches out with his crutch. Surya believes it's necessary to break the rules and uses the crutch to strike his competitor close to the eye, briefly rendering him blind, and end the match. This infuriates Jimmy, who then shoots and stabs the man. Supri steps in, grabs the gun, and kills Jimmy.
Later, Surya awakens in his house, which has been converted into a hospital. He is surrounded by Ajoba and Supri. Mani, who admitted to killing Jimmy, is later found to be in prison. Surya pursues his father's dream of becoming an accountant and succeeds in doing so. Canada is where Supri's mother is treated. She can now focus on her profession and think about herself without having to worry about her mother's treatment anymore.
Although the movie did not do well at the box office, it was critically acclaimed and praised by critics and audiences alike for its unique story and direction. Abhimanyu Dassani also won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut for this movie.
