Puri Jagannadh will soon release the sports action movie Liger, which he also wrote and directed. The movie, which was simultaneously filmed in Hindi and Telugu, is made by Dharma Productions and Puri Connects. Along with Ananya Panday, Makarand Deshpande, Ronit Roy, and Ramya Krishna, who play crucial parts, Vijay Deverakonda plays the movie's titular MMA fighter boxer. American boxer and one of the greatest heavyweight champions Mike Tyson makes his debut appearance in Indian cinema with a lengthy cameo.

Liger is the story of a good-for-nothing street goon who has temper issues and always picks fights with fellow goons. He meets a boxing coach, played by Ronit Roy, who agrees to train him and channel his anger into the sport if he agrees to stop picking fights with goons on the streets. Vijay falls in love with Ananya Panday, but in a twist of events, it is shown that their love story does not blossom as expected. Vijay gets exceptionally good at boxing and represents India at the highest level. He even becomes the world champion at one point but his past haunts him which causes setbacks in his personal and professional life. Liger explores the life of Vijay Devrakonda's character and how he redeems himself in front of his loved ones.

The title of the film was announced in January 2020, with its filming starting in the same month. The filming was halted due to the COVID 19 pandemic which restarted in 2021 but was halted again due to the same reason. The filming was finally completed by February 2022, after shooting Mike Tyson's parts in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The movie is scheduled to release on 25 August 2022.
