Sony Entertainment Television used to air the daily Indian drama Kutumb. The programme premiered on October 29, 2001, and it ended on February 7, 2003. The two seasons of the show had independent narratives, nevertheless. However, the focus of both series is on the central figures Pratham (Hiten Tejwani) and Gauri (Gauri Pradhan), as well as their love and kutumb (family),alongside Jayati Bhatia, Kishwer Merchant and Rohit Bakshi, who play important roles.
The Mittal family is prosperous and successful, but they are deeply rooted in their customs and culture. The eldest Mittal son Umesh has three children: Nandini, Pratham (Hiten Tejwani), and Gautam. He is married to Gayatri. Samay, Tushar, and Diya are the three children Rajesh and Archana had together. With his three children, Siddharth, Riya, and Richa, and his deceased wife Maya (Sakshi Tanwar), Sanjay, a widower, frequently engages in fictitious dialogues. Ajay and Kavita are devoted to all the other children despite not having any children of their own. Sanskar and Sanskriti, who are the offspring of Umesh's sister, are the other children who live with the family.
To his father Umesh's chagrin, Pratham is revealed to be the family's spoiled brat who is adored by everyone.
Gauri Agarwal (Gauri Pradhan Tejwani), in contrast, comes from a middle-class nuclear family and doesn't put up with anything. Her mother, father, sister Preeti, and brother Shashank make up Gauri's family.
As per her father's desires, Nandini (Poonam Narula), Pratham's own sister, married when she was young; nevertheless, the marriage ended in divorce. Additionally, her ex-husband doesn't want to interact with their kid Shobhit. The wrong man was picked for Nandini by her father, who regrets it. He wants her to remarry, but she thinks marriage is not for her.
Gauri, a student at the same college, despises Pratham for his lack of morals and his entitlement to wealth. Gauri defeats Pratham in the race for class president, and as a punishment, he locks himself in a room with her while making it appear as though they were having fun. Their conservative families decide that the two must get married when the media blows the incident out of proportion. Pratham uses this as a chance to make Gauri's life as difficult as possible. Gauri caves in to pressure from her family, and they get married.
The main plot of the narrative revolves around how the two characters deal with their differences and ultimately fall in love.
