Pushpdeep Bhardwaj is the director of the 2018 Hindi-language musical love drama film Jalebi. Rhea Chakraborty, Varun Mitra, and Digangana Suryavanshi play key roles in this official remake of the Bengali movie Praktan, which also stars Aanya Dureja, Poorti Arya, and Mahesh Thakur in important parts.

Aisha, a Mumbai native and aspiring author, travels to Delhi with a buddy to conduct research for her future novel. She meets Dev, a local tour guide, and develops feelings for him. Later, she makes him a marriage proposal, and they wed. Aisha finds out she is expecting after a few months. Dev is overjoyed, but Aisha is hesitant because she feels unprepared for parenting. They both feel relieved when Dev persuades her, and they decide to call the baby daughter Disha—a combination of Dev and Aisha's names.

Sadly, Aisha miscarries, and Dev's mother accuses Aisha of being to responsible. Aisha departs from Dev after feeling embarrassed and ridiculed. Dev and his family attempt to bring her back a few days later, but she is absent. If Dev truly loves her, she begs him to come to meet her in Kashmir, but Dev declines.

Aisha cancels her second wedding seven years later because she still loves Dev. She resolves to visit Delhi in order to confront her issues. She encounters Anu and her daughter Pulti along the road and learns that Anu is Dev's new wife. On the same train, she also encounters Dev. She thinks back on her marriage to him while they travel. She is irritated and reprimands Dev for naming Pulti Disha after learning that it is her given name. Anu admits that Pulti was actually conceived by her boyfriend and is not Dev's child. As soon as Dev lifted, he noticed Pulti, and he had one need before they got married: she had to be given the name Disha.

Dev's station is reached by the train. Anu thanks Aisha for bringing her Dev and informs her that she is aware that Aisha is Dev's first wife and his true love as she departs. Anu urges Dev to tell Aisha the truth—that he had intended to meet her that day in Kashmir but had realised she wouldn't be pleased with him—before he exits the train. He wanted to see her having a happy life and achieving her aspirations because his world is different from hers. He admits that this is what caused him to rush through their divorce process and make a terrible impression on her. Additionally, he admits to having read her book numerous times. Both people hug and cry. Despite having distinct destinations, she claims that their love has not changed. Dev informs Aisha that he will wait for her upcoming book, and the two of them split ways to pursue separate paths in life.

Dev discovers Aisha's new novel, Jalebi, which recounts their love story, a year later.
