The first episode of Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao aired on Sony Entertainment Television on July 13, 2009. It was the first and only I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!-inspired Indian television series. Mona Wasu won the competition and received a prize of 1 Crore Indian rupees. The first runner-up in this competition was Chetan Hansraj, and the second runner-up was Anaida.

The format for the show, I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, is licenced from ITV. The essential premise is the same—a group of celebrities must contend with one another in order to survive in a jungle camp without any luxuries.

Every three days, each contender receives a small amount of rice and some beans or lentils, which is obviously insufficient for survival. They must so compete in a variety of physically demanding events to win "food credits" for both themselves and the other members of their squad. The squad must choose one player each day to represent them in the competition and serve as the day's primary earner.

Every week, a task known as the "Maha Jungle Challenge" pits the contender with the fewest public votes against the contestant with the most participant nominations for elimination. The victor of this challenge gets to remain in the game while the loser is taken out.

For the one season that it aired for, ten Indian celebrities were picked to take part. They were transported by air to Taman Negara in Malaysia's rain forests, where they were forced to remain in a primitive outdoor camp with little or no luxuries. Each competitor was permitted to bring two luxuries of their choice, which they had to declare prior to the competition.
