In 2010, Sajid Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala released the comedy-drama film Housefull in India. The film is partially based on the 1998 Tamil play Kaathala Kaathala. Starring in the movie are Jiah Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, and Akshay Kumar. Boman Irani, Chunky Pandey, Randhir Kapoor, Lillete Dubey, and Malaika Arora make up the supporting cast. The movie's talking parrot is voiced by Rajesh Kava.

The narrative centres on Aarush, a panauti who works at a casino and is paid when poker players lose. After the lady he loves, Pooja, rejects his proposal of marriage, her older brother punches him and warns him to stay away from her. Aarush travels to London to visit his best buddy Bob and his wife Hetal for a while. Bob and his wife both work at a casino owned by Kishore Samtani, and Bob is constantly in love with her. Hetal is initially annoyed by Aarush's presence, but he ends up being a good man yearning for a family. Bob and Hetal resolve to arrange for him to wed Devika Samtani, the daughter of their boss. Devika breaks up with him for her long-term American boyfriend Benny after their honeymoon in Italy. Aarush attempts to end his life by plunging in the water, but Sandy, a girl he kisses while she tries to give him mouth-to-mouth, saves him.

Aakhri Pasta, the proprietor of Italy's "biggest" resort where Aarush was staying with Devika, tells Sandy that Aarush is a young widow as a joke and that his wife passed away the day of their honeymoon, which causes Sandy to befriend him and gradually fall in love with him. At first, Sandy believes Aarush to be a pervert. She is unaware that Pasta was joking when he said that. Aarush informs him of the full story over the phone when Bob and Hetal are in Italy. After that, Sandy claims that she assisted Aarush following the loss of his "wife," but both of them take this to mean that Aarush deceived Sandy about the deceased spouse. Later, when he runs into Devika, he requests divorce papers. After learning that his wife is still alive, she decides to leave him. Aarush climbs from Sandy's balcony since she won't let him into her room. A live telecast is broadcast because Pasta believes Aarush is committing suicide. When Aarush is able to resolve the confusion, Sandy subsequently turns on her TV and walks to her terrace but accepts him at the time. What follows is a series of hilarious back-and-forth between Aarush, Sandy, Bob, Hetal and a few other important characters which makes this a perfect family entertainer.
