Gulabjaam is a Marathi movie about Aditya, a young Maharashtrian from London, who travels to Pune in search of someone who can teach him how to prepare traditional Maharashtrian dishes. In London, he wants to start a Marathi Gourmet Restaurant.

NRI banker Aditya (Siddharth Chandekar) tells his family he's returning to London for a career but actually travels to Pune to study vegetarian Marathi cooking with Radha (Sonali Kulkarni). Radha eventually opens up to Aditya, despite being unpleasant and obstinate at the film's beginning.

Aditya learns from Radha how to cook in numerous ways, including how to clean equipment and buy veggies. Together they develop a service called 'Dial-A- Chef' where they go to people's residences and make them supper. Aditya still has second thoughts about whether or not to notify his family about his desire to open a restaurant.
