An Indian fantasy sitcom called Gharwali Uparwali first broadcast on Star Plus from 3 July 2000 to 23 June 2003. All during its tenure, Gharwali Uparwali earned positive reviews. Producing the programme is Nirja Guleri. With Mukul Dev, Ratna Pathak Shah, Niki Walia, Manasi Joshi Roy, Mickey Dhamejani, Sudha Chandran, and Sudhir Pandey in the prominent parts, Gharwali Uparwali is written and directed by Shrey Guleri. It has an IMDb rating of 8.3 out of 10.

The protagonist of the story remarries after losing his first spouse, which brings him into conflict with her ghost, who had never before left their home. The first wife's heart first causes conflict in the home, but by the end, she is able to make peace with her past. The neighbours and Sunny, the young child who must now cope with two moms instead of just one, frequently find themselves in amusing situations in the series.

The fantasy aspect and sitcom structure of this show, which was the first of its sort in the history of Indian television, started a trend and gave rise to a number of other well-liked programmes, including Karishma Ka Karishma and Shararat.

Gharwali Uparwali has been nominated for a number of prestigious television awards, including the Indian Telly Awards for Comedy/Sitcom Of The Year in 2002 and The Screen Awards for Best Serial (Comedy) in 2000.

Gharwali Uparwali Aur Sunny, a follow-up series, debuted on Star Plus on October 11, 2003, and was the second entry in this enormously popular Fantasy-Comedy series.
