A Hindi-language romantic TV show called Ek Duje Ke Vaaste ran on Sony TV from 29 February 2016 until 7 October 2016. Nikita Dutta and Namik Paul, respectively, performed the roles of male and female characters. Two childhood friends are at the centre of the story, which centres on their struggles to become lovers as they get older. It also stars Madan Joshi, Satyajit Sharma, Geeta Tyagi, Geetanjali Tiekar and Avtar Gill, among others in recurring roles. 

After her parents were killed in an accident, Suman, who comes from a close-knit family, was raised by her grandfather to be a strong, independent, and self-respecting woman. The Malhotra family is affluent and consists of two brothers, Ramnath and Lala Ji, as well as their wives and three sons: Pushkar, Varun, and Shravan. Ramnath, the father of Shravan, and Suman's grandpa were both mentors to one another.

Together as children, Shravan and Suman split apart when Shravan decides to practice law in London after his parents, Nirmala and Ramnath, divorced. Ten years later, when he returns, Suman notices a change in him. He rejects her despite her apology for not being there for him. He insults Suman at a school reunion, and they drift apart until Suman's home is in danger of being sold. The two restore their friendship after Shravan wins the legal battle. While Suman works to get Shravan back with his mother, he prefers to accept his father's version of events. Ramnath, who is possessive, gets furious with Suman and manages to sever their relationship.

Preeti, a cousin of Suman, falls in love with Pushkar, and together they are able to persuade their respective families to approve of their relationship. When Suman's grandfather has a heart attack, he demands that Suman make him a vow that she will wed a family friend named Aditya. Shravan's foster brother Aditya, who was raised by Shravan's mother, develops doubts about Suman and Shravan's relationship after being provoked by Kamini, Shravan's aunt.

Aditya misbehaved with Suman, which resulted to the cancellation of their wedding. Shravan weds Suman after noticing Suman's grandfather's illness. Over time, Ramnath comes to realise how Shravan has become a misogynist who disrespects the women in his life as a consequence of his lies. He confesses to Shravan, who pleads with Suman for forgiveness, feeling guilt-ridden. The two joyfully declare their love for one another and come together and the show comes to an end. It has a spiritual successor in the name of Ek Duje Ke Vaaste 2.
