The 2014 Hindi-language spooky comedy film Bhoothnath Returns was made by Bhushan Kumar and directed by Nitesh Tiwari. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and Parth Bhalerao in lead roles. The movie, a prequel to Bhoothnath from 2008, centres on Bhoothnath, who is made fun of in a Bhoothworld for not being able to frighten kids before being brought back to Earth to atone for his failings. The movie was released on April 11, 2014, and IMDb gave it a score of 6.6/10.

Kailash Nath, also known as Bhoothnath, travels to the Bhoothworld where he encounters ridicule and questions about his ghostly prowess after failing to frighten any children. In an effort to atone for his transgressions, he travels back to India where he makes an effort to scare youngsters but is ineffective because today's kids are intelligent, strong, and talkative. Akhrot, a young child, may see him in his actual form. In exchange for Bhoothnath being fearful of him and fleeing a haunted house as he chants mantras in front of the kids, Akhrot, who is not afraid of Bhoothnath, helps him scare a few kids. This allows the kids to accept Bhoothnath into their cricket team.

Bhoothnath decides to help Akhrot even more by assisting him in making money by granting the wishes of ghosts who reside in high-rise buildings that are still under construction, thereby learning the reasons for the ghosts' deaths and teaching them about Bhau, a former convicted felon who is now a crooked politician. They also learn more about Bhau during this process. Bhoothnath resolves to run in the forthcoming elections after becoming inspired by Akhrot and realising how widespread corruption is in India. Soon, Bhoothnath and Bhau's competition intensifies to the point where Bhoothnath gives up his abilities in order to prevail.

Bhoothnath will hold a rally the day before the election to promote a large turnout on election day. Akhrot is threatened with death by Bhau's men unless he stops the rally from happening, but he resists and is prepared to take the risk.

When Akhrot refuses to comply, Bhau's men severely hurt him, forcing Bhoothnath to abandon the gathering and attend to Akhrot in the hospital. In order to save Akhrot's life, he travels to the Bhoothworld. They assure him that they will spare Akhrot's life if Bhoothnath wins the poll. Bhau, in the meantime, tries to persuade the crowd to support him by taking advantage of Bhoothnath's absence from the rally. On election day, the majority of the electorate chooses Bhoothnath, nevertheless. The following morning, Bhootnath notices Akhrot's heartbeat quickening and learns he won the election. Akhrot regains consciousness as the movie comes to a close, and everyone is congratulating Bhoothnath on his accomplishments.
