The Big Bang Theory is an American television sitcom produced by Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Steven Molaro, who also acted as executive producers and head writers. It started on CBS on September 24, 2007, and ended on May 16, 2019, after 12 seasons and 279 episodes.

Leonard Hofstadter, played by Johnny Galecki and Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons are physicists at Caltech and share an apartment. Penny, played by Kaley Cuoco is a waitress and aspiring actress who lives across the hall. Leonard and Sheldon's similarly geeky and socially awkward friends and co-workers, aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz, played by Simon Helberg and astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali, played by Kunal Nayyar spend most of their time at their friends' apartment when they're not at work. Supporting characters such as neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler, played by Mayim Bialik, microbiologist Bernadette Rostenkowski, played by Melissa Rauch, and comic book store owner Stuart Bloom, played by Kevin Sussman were promoted to main roles over time.

Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television produced the show, which was taped in front of a live audience. During its first season, it earned mixed reviews, but in the second and third seasons, it received a more positive response. Despite varied early reviews, seven of the eleven seasons were ranked in the top ten of final season ratings, with the eleventh season reaching the top spot. From 2011 to 2014, it was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, and Parsons won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series four times. It was nominated for 46 Emmy Awards and won seven of them.

The show has had several notable actors dawning it's sets throughout its run which includes Brian Thomas Smith as Zack Johnson, a dim-witted yet friendly handsome hunk whom Penny dates for a brief period of time after breaking up with leonard and Brian George, who plays the role of V M Koothrappali, father of Raj Koothrappali.
