Plot

The movie Aseq follows the story of Ronnie, who falls in love with a woman named Lail after his breakup with Priyanka. However, their newfound romance takes an unexpected turn when Ronnie starts experiencing eerie and unexplained events. These strange occurrences lead Ronnie to suspect that Priyanka, his ex-girlfriend, is somehow involved.

Determined to find the truth and put an end to the mysterious happenings, Ronnie enlists the help of his friends. Together, they embark on a thrilling journey to unravel the riddle behind supernatural events. As they dig deeper into the mystery, they uncover a series of clues and encounter various obstacles that test their friendship and resilience.

Aseq presents an intriguing concept that explores the domain of Jinn known as Aseq, which becomes infatuated with individuals and proves challenging to get rid of. While the premise is conceptually appealing, the execution falls short, failing to effectively portray this intriguing subject.

Writer-director Sarin Momin succeeds in creating a sense of unease by incorporating spooky scenes at regular intervals. However, the film falters in fully exploring its premise and developing its characters, making it difficult for viewers to connect with the protagonists. The uneven pacing and predictable screenplay further contribute to the overall disappointment. The central plot revolving around the Jinn appears half-hearted and could have benefitted from more in-depth writing and clarity. The use of clichéd dialogue also detracts from the overall experience, diminishing the impact of the narrative.

Sonnalli Seygall delivers a decent performance as Lail in Aseq. Known for her appearances in romantic comedies, Seygall portrays a drastically different persona here. While she looks visually appealing on screen, connecting with her character's other side proves challenging at times. The trio of friends, portrayed by Vardhan Puri, Siddhant Kapoor, and Adi Chugh, perform adequately, but their characters lack development, hindering the viewer's ability to form a meaningful connection with them.

Shot in London, the film benefits from the atmospheric cinematography by Naren Gediaa and the effective production design, contributing to the unsettling mood. However, the background music, a crucial component in any horror movie, falls short in this regard, failing to enhance the overall experience.

Despite its intriguing premise involving Jinn and their obsession, Aseq fails to deliver on its promises of delivering genuine horror or breaking new ground in the supernatural genre. However, the film still holds some value and may be considered a one-time watch for those interested in exploring the subject matter.

Vardhan Puri as Ronnie

In the movie Aseq, Vardhan Puri portrays the character of Ronnie. Although the character is affected by supernatural events and experiences, the writing and development of Ronnie's character are lacking. This makes it difficult for viewers to truly connect with him. Vardhan Puri's performance, however, is commendable as he effectively brings Ronnie's emotions and reactions to life. Despite the limitations in the script, Puri manages to convey Ronnie's confusion and determination to uncover the truth. It is evident that Puri invests effort in portraying Ronnie's journey, but the underdeveloped nature of the character prevents him from fully shining in the role.

Sonnalli Seygall as Lail

Sonnalli Seygall takes on the role of Lail in Aseq. Known for her appearances in romantic comedies, Seygall showcases her versatility in this film by playing a drastically different persona. As Lail, Seygall delivers a decent performance, bringing a sense of mystery and intrigue to her character. However, the lack of depth in the writing prevents viewers from fully connecting with Lail's other side. Seygall's physical presence on screen is visually appealing, but the limitations in the character development make it challenging to completely understand and relate to Lail's complex personality. Nonetheless, Seygall manages to hold her own and deliver a noteworthy portrayal of Lail within the confines of the script.
