Yashasvi Bhupendra Kumar Jaiswal is an Indian cricket player who plays in Test Matches and T20Is. In July 2023, he made his debut for his country against the West Indies in the opening Test match, where he scored a century in his opening innings. He is a member of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai in domestic cricket. He became the youngest cricket player to achieve a double century in List A cricket in 2019.

He competed in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup as a member of the Indian team that finished third and won the gold medal at the Asian Games in 2022. He also led the team in runs scored and was named Player of the Tournament in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Additionally, he was a reserve member of the Indian team that participated in and placed second in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship.

When he achieved double hundreds in back-to-back Test matches against England during a five-match Test series in 2024, he attracted special attention. He follows Virat Kohli and Vinod Kambli as the other two Indian batters to accomplish the feat. Yashasvi, behind Vinod Kambli and Sir Don Bradman, is the third-youngest cricketer in Test history to have scored two double hundreds. He tied the world record held by Wasim Akram for the most sixes (12) scored by a cricket player in a test innings during that same series. In addition, he became the second Indian player to achieve 700 runs in a Test series, behind Sunil Gavaskar.

The cricket career of Yashasvi Jaiswal has inspired many. He overcame obstacles because of his impoverished upbringing to realise his aspirations. The Mumbai boy made headlines when he joined the Indian U-19 team for the August tour of Sri Lanka. Yashasvi has scored 49 centuries in the last five years while progressing through the junior cricket ranks but he wasn't performing all that well for the national team.

However, lets go to the start of his career to understand and appreciate it better.

Jaiswal first gained fame in 2015 when he set an all-time record for Indian school cricket by scoring 319 runs without conceding an end and taking 13/99 in a Giles Shield match. He was picked for the Mumbai under-16 team and then the Indian cricket team's under-19 squad. He named the player of the tournament at the 2018 Under-19 Asia Cup, which India won, with 318 runs.

Against the South Africa under-19 team in a Youth Test match in 2019, Jaiswal struck 173 from 220 balls. Later same year, he participated in the England under-19 tri-series and amassed 294 runs in seven matches, including four half-centuries. He was added to India's 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad in December 2019. Leading run scorer at the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Jaiswal went on to earn Player of the Tournament, including a century against Pakistan in the semifinals.

On January 7, 2019, Jaiswal made his Mumbai team's first-class debut in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy. On September 28, 2019, he made his List A debut in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In a Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Jharkhand on October 16, 2019, he hit 203 runs off of 154 balls, making history as the youngest double centurion in List A cricket history at the age of 17 years, 292 days. With 564 runs in six games at a batting average of 112.80, he was among the top five run scorers during the competition. His innings featured 17 fours and 12 sixes. He was included in the Deodhar Trophy squad for India B in 2019–20.

He was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 Indian Premier League auction, and on September 22, 2020, he made his Twenty20 cricket debut for the team. On October 2, 2021, he scored his first T20 half-century against Chennai Super Kings, which was at the time the second-fastest in franchise history. On April 30, 2023, he scored his first T20 century against Mumbai Indians, scoring 124 from 62 balls, which was the second-highest score in an IPL match at Wankhede Stadium. In an IPL match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 11, 2023, he achieved the fastest half-century in the history of the league in just 13 balls, breaking the previous mark shared by Pat Cummins and KL Rahul. With 625 runs scored at the end of the 2023 Indian Premier League, he was Rajasthan's top run scorer.

Jaiswal was called up for the first time to the Indian Test team in June 2023 for the West Indies series. In the opening Test of the series, he made his debut, opening the batting with a score of 171 runs and striking a century. In addition, he was named Player of the Match. In August 2023, he made his T20I debut against the West Indies in the third game of the T20I series. He shared a 165-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill in the fourth match of the series, when he got his first T20I half-century (84* off 51 balls).

He was included in India's squad for the home 5-match Test series against England in January 2024. He scored 80 runs off just 74 balls in the opening innings of the first Test match.He scored his first double century in the series' second encounter, making 209 runs off 290 balls in the opening half. After Vinod Kambli and Sunil Gavaskar, he became the third-youngest batsman from India to hit a double hundred in a Test match. After Virat Kohli and Vinod Kambli, Jaiswal became the third Indian batsman to record a double century in back-to-back Test matches with his second century in the series' next game. In addition, he tied the record for the most sixes in a Test innings with 12 hits throughout the innings.

The first player to ever hit 20 sixes in a series in Test history is Jaiswal. At the age of 22, he became the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to reach 500 runs in a Test series. In a Test series against England, he also amassed the highest run total by an Indian.

The International Cricket Council nominated him for the February 2024 ICC Men's Player of the Month award.
