Trent Boult Cricket

Trent Boult a left-arm quick who is considered one-half of the best new-ball pair in New Zealand history by Sir Richard Hadlee poses a serious threat to batsmen all over the world with his ability to move the ball both ways even in unresponsive conditions.

Boult who was up in the Bay of Plenty area of New Zealand's North Island is a typical type of Kiwi young guy... into his golf fishing and surfing in the words of his brother Jono. But his true calling was in cricket. He shared a neighborhood with future teammates Kane Williamson and Doug Bracewell and benefited from the support of a loving family who helped keep him grounded. Even as a teenager he showed signs of talent. He was recognized as the nation's quickest secondary school bowler at the age of 17. He was representing New Zealand at the Under-19 World Cup a year later.

However the move to senior cricket was not entirely smooth. Boult missed two years of cricket in 2009 due to a stress fracture in his back which taught him to prioritize strength and conditioning. There was talk that adjusting his bowling motion was what caused the injury. Boult decided to resume his old behavior under the guidance of Shane Bond one of his heroes and the results were more than encouraging. He was able to maintain 140 kph for extended periods of time by 2015. He developed into one of New Zealand's indispensable players across all formats and was one of many key figures in the team's 2015 run to their first World Cup final.

Boult initially struggled to make the limited-overs teams because it was thought that he didn't move the white ball as much as he did the red one. However his performance in Test cricket was too enticing to ignore: only two years after making his debut in 2013 he was New Zealand's leading wicket-taker. He sped past 100 wickets in his 29th outing. It was a good fit because Brendon McCullum valued attacking cricket in shorter formats and because Boult had established himself as a bowler who preferred to remove batsmen from the game rather than keep them quiet.

Confirmation came at the 2015 World Cup as he finished tied for the tournament's top wicket-taker with 22 victims in nine games including 5 for 27 in a thrilling win over Australia. His value in T20 cricket was highlighted by an IPL paycheck worth (roughly) $600 000.

Boult's strength is that he's got a lovely wrist position and the fact that the wrist goes right behind the ball gives him that control according to Northern Districts coach John Pamment.

Tim Southee a buddy and sounding board for Boult is another asset. When they are performing together their combination is captivating to watch and generates powerful statistics. The pair helped New Zealand to its most successful Test year with five victories in nine games in 2014 by taking 67 of the 143 wickets the team had.

The two have quickly passed 200 Test wickets and as of 2019 are third and fourth respectively on New Zealand's all-time list of Test wicket-takers following Hadlee and Daniel Vettori. Boult continued to be outstanding at the 2019 World Cup grabbing 17 wickets while assisting New Zealand's attack. He picked up a hat-trick against Australia and Virat Kohli's crucial wicket in the semi-final victory against India. Without some bad luck he might have helped his country win the World Cup. He bowled the final over and the Super Over in the tied final against England. Boult is one of the few fast bowlers who can also play excellent defense and excels at one-handed blinders.
