National Record

It currently ranks as the fourth-highest score by a batsman in any organised game. Until Pranav Dhanawade broke the record on January 4, 2016, it was the highest total in Indian schools cricket. Only Charles Eady's 566 in 1901 and AEJ Collins's 628* in 1899 are higher.

Dadabhoy Havewala's 515 runs in 1933 was the previous highest score by an Indian in any type of registered competitive cricket. Before being caught and bowled, Shaw's innings, which lasted six hours and seven minutes, comprised 85 fours and five sixes. After bowling out their rivals, St. Francis d'Assisi, for 93 runs, Rizvi amassed 991 runs.

Since Tendulkar, who had scored 326 in the same competition in 1988, had just four days earlier announced his official retirement from international cricket, the innings garnered a lot of media interest. In a Freaky Good Futures article of Shaw, Howard Swains noted that "the Master's Apprentice created an innings of almost supernatural brilliance" less than a week after India said its ultimate goodbye to the Little Master.
