Prashanth Neel is a Kannada film director and screenwriter. In the critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2014 film Ugramm he made his acting debut. Ugramm was a sensational critical and commercial success running for more than a hundred days in theatres and Prashanth won the SIIMA Award for Best Debut Director that year. In addition he was nominated for Best Director at the Filmfare Awards (South) and SIIMA Awards for his work on the film.
Prashanth Neel directed the two-part film series K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018) and K.G.F: Chapter 2 (2022) with the latter becoming Kannada's highest-grossing film. Prashanth Neel won the SIIMA and Zee Kannada Hemmeya awards for his noteworthy directing work on the KGF and Ugramm movies. In the film KGF which stands for Kolar Gold Fields Yash played Rocky an orphan who becomes a don.

The film was made in 1951. Two incidents occur here: the hero's birth and the discovery of gold in the Kolar Gold Fields (K.G.F). The hero is raised in poverty. He moves to Mumbai when he is very young to become a mafia don. His mother wished for her son to be wealthy and powerful. He returns home after spending some time in Mumbai. Will he be able to rise to the position of Don? Will he free his people from centuries of slavery? The film revolves around this plot.
In an interview Prashant Neel stated that the film was completely inspired by the epic Mahabharata. The Kolar Gold Fields gangster family is based on the Kuru family with the old freaking Suryavardhan resembling Dhritrasthra/Bhishma. Rocky's character is based entirely on Karna (the protagonist of the Mahabharata) who enters the family feud and emerges as the hero in the midst of it. Karna like the Mahabharata changes the fortunes of the Kuru family. Rocky travels to the gold fields where he alters the fate of the entire gangster family and its leaders. Rocky rises from the streets to become the world's most powerful person. He is a charming and attractive hero.
Salaar is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language action thriller film written and directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Hombale Films' Vijay Kiragandur. Prabhas plays the titular character in the film which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran Shruti Haasan and Jagapathi Babu. The plot revolves around a gang leader who attempts to keep a promise made to a dying friend by taking on other criminal gangs. Salaar is a Telugu film that will be released on September 28 2023.
