Controversial Run-Out
With MS Dhoni looking solid in the crease the game was destined for a last-over outcome. A brilliant direct shot from Martin Guptill ended MS Dhoni's tenure at the crease for a knock of 50 and dashed the Indians' hopes when 25 was needed off of 10 balls.
Guptill recalled his spectacular throw and said that anything other than a direct would not have done the trick while pointing out how near to the crease Dhoni was. The run-out according to New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was unbelievable and improved his team's chances of winning the match.
Colin de Grandhomme was present but it needed to be a direct hit because I believe Dhoni was quite close to the crease (display distance between Dhoni and crease) meaning if it had been taken he would have been safe. It was a very intense game Guptill was quoted in a Prime Video video.
My regular position is at mid-off so I believe I may have been there. Clearly it was a crucial moment in the game. Martin Guptill made an unbelievable run-out for a direct hit at that range. We had a much greater chance to reach the finish line because it was a huge wicket Williamson remarked.
