Finn Allen began his cricketing career by competing for Auckland at various age levels. Allen was selected for the Auckland Under-17 team in 2015 and he later played for the under-19 team as well. Allen also travelled with the New Zealand team to the ICC Under 19 World Cup in 2015–16.

Not only that but Allen was once more selected for the New Zealand Under-19 World Cup team. His magnificent century against West Indies in the opening game of his second U-19 World Cup kept him unbeaten for 115 innings. On June 3 2017 against Central Districts Finn Allen made his T20 debut for Auckland following his outstanding achievements in the U-19 World Cup.

Allen later made his List-A debut for Auckland on February 17 2018 by competing against Central Districts in The Ford Trophy. He only managed to score five runs in the game which is a shame. In the same year Allen made his Plunket Shield debut for Auckland against Central Districts in the longest format. Only 20 runs totaled in the first inning and 16 runs totaled in the second inning were managed by him. In both the first and second innings Ajaz Patel a spinner got rid of him.

Allen afterwards signed with Wellington and played for them through 2020 continuing his domestic cricket career. He was in excellent form with the bat during the 2020–2021 Super Smash scoring 512 runs with a strike rate of 194 and guiding Wellington Firebirds to the championship. Allen was chosen to play for England in the T20I series against Bangladesh in March 2021 as a result of his outstanding performances on the domestic circuit. Rest was given to veteran athletes like Trent Boult and Kane Williamson. 

On March 28 he made his public debut in Seddon Park. He played a standout inning of 71 runs in the third game after seeming unremarkable in the first two games and scoring a duck in his debut.
