Speaking about his humble beginnings Amarjit stated that his mother a fish vendor and his farmer father always supported and pushed him to play football. At the age of five he started playing football after his older brother Umakanta who was already a fan.

After beginning their training with Deben Singh the father of Jeakson Singh a teammate in the U-17 age group the two kids traveled to Chandigarh in 2011 to train at CFA (Chandigarh Football Academy). Amarjit Singh Kiyam's adventure started in this manner. He was seen by national selectors in 2015 while on one of the exposure tours to Goa and has been working with the AIFF academy since then.
